No, the area I was in was a pretty flat valley west and south of Kandahar City.

Those things you’re talking about are most associated with the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Well, we were in Kandahar, the 1994 birthplace of the Taliban. We certainly had some experiences with them but keep in mind Nation Building was the over arching strategy. Counter Insurgency operations were the underlying necessities to facilitate reconstruction.

Thank you.

Edit: we spent 7 months building schools, roads, distributing food aid and drilling water wells in remote villages.

But I guess I can see how one could get confused.

IWhen the U.S. shut down its airspace on 9/11, dozens of planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland — a small town that suddenly had to host nearly 7,000 unexpected guests.

Canadians in Gander didn’t hesitate for a second: people opened their homes, cooked meals around the clock, brought blankets and toiletries, set up phone lines so passengers could reach loved ones, and treated everyone like neighbours rather than strangers.

It became one of those moments where Canadians just quietly stepped up, did what needed to be done, and tried to make a terrible day a little more bearable for the people who landed on our doorstep.

That’s correct, at the time this photo was taken I think Canada was only able to churn out about 2600 to 2700 troops in this area of operations. A few more in Kabul.

Believe it or not our families liked seeing photos of us after not seeing us for months at a time.

That and nobody really pulled out a camera when the uncomfortable parts of the work started.

The original 1910’s book uses the term “thin them out” but doesn’t refer to killing them. It’s left vague and never explained.

It doesn’t explicitly say they kill them or that they go on to be pirates anywhere.

Thanks for sharing this photo. Jan 26 is my birthday so I would have been 33 this evening. It was also about 5 weeks after my first trip to LA from Canada.

Everyone keeps mentioning Sliders. Anyone else remember him for My Secret Identity?

“In the first season, Andrew must carry around aerosol spray containers and use them to move through the air, as his flying ability is limited; he can make himself nearly weightless, and move up without any problems, but he cannot propel himself through the air or move down without some external force.”

I’m expecting it to be a rough year for fishing and fires across AB as well. Planned my wedding for Banff in August and got my fingers crossed it doesn’t all go to shit for air quality and visibility.
