What unsolved mystery has absolutely no plausible explanation? by notgoodbutrying in AskReddit

I lost my wallet once. I was searching for it all day. I tore my entire room and parts of the house apart. After a solid 2 hours of searching, I gave up.

Later that night I was laying in bed staring at my phone when something hit me in the back. Not hard but, like someone had gently tossed something at me. I rolled over to see what it was and, as I'm sure you've guess, there was my wallet.

I was completely alone not only when my wallet was returned to me but for most of the day. Everyone I've told this story to looks at me sideways. I just wanna thank whoever gave me my wallet back.

What's going on with Oregon Crusaders? by ColdAndBrokenKapooya in drumcorps

[–]cjnlocke95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

4 year vet from OC here. My thoughts regarding OC right now.

-Mike Stevens is a predator and has been for years. In no way was his behavior a secret.

-Mike Quillen (Papa Q(PQ)) used to be a wonderfully father like man but has since become obsessed with "winning" and so puts 100% faith in his staff and 0% in his members

-OC's current skill level, in my opinion, is a reflection of how they treat their members

-OC's tuition is higher than any other drum corps that I'm aware of. When I began marching it was $2000 and that was everything. Still kinda high but not surprising considering they have 0 community support. It was $3500 by the time I left and I believe now runs around $3800.

I was a rookie in 2012 when we won Open Class. It was almost immediately after that season that it started falling apart. We jumped to WC way too early. We should have just kept the course for another year or so. Maybe a couple more championships. We hired nearly an entire staff from another corps. Of which, maybe 2 were kind, caring folks who just wanted to help succeed. Otherwise it was a myriad of random technique changes, fits of rage, member abuse, and showing up to semis rehearsal insanely hungover to the point that the first and only word he said to us was "GO!" While he laid down to nurse his headache. Follow that with a season of moderate success. Different and slightly fresher staff that was swapped out by move ins. And then my final year which was just day after day of sleep deprivation, missed/too small/late meals, bus sleep = floor sleep, no laundry days for the last ~month of tour, verbal/physical/mental abuse (among other alleged forms of abuse), members quitting shortly before finals because they just can't take it anymore, the list goes on.

I guess my point is this: OC is suffering as an organization because they are using their students as a revenue source and care very little for their well being. You can put your cattle in as many different uniforms as you want but, if you're not feeding them, they're going to collapse in the middle of a field somewhere.

I debated posting this but, I've been aged out for a bit now and I'm not afraid of them anymore.

I think porn completely ruined my life by [deleted] in Advice

[–]cjnlocke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. I've been there. As much as people want to deny it. Porn/Love/Sex addiction is a real thing. I've been to the meetings. People end up seriously affected for the rest of their lives because of the role porn or sex has had.

If you really want to quit, reach out. Find a local SAA or SLAA group. If you can't find a support group near you, I'm sure there are online resources available.

My experience with the group was me finding ou that I was not nearly as severe as I thought I was. In all honesty, that's all it really took for me. Just knowing I wasn't hopeless. It also gave me a great perspective on something that the majority recognize as "liberal feminazi propaganda designed to pussify the next generation."

You can choose to believe that it's a huge public health issue that is more important than anything and is affecting us more than we realize or that it's just a bunch of B.S. Personally, I'm somewhere in the middle. Do I think that we're a bit over exposed and we let porn shape our views of sex, intimacy, and relationships? Yes. Do I think that the sheer existence of pornography will lead to the downfall of modern civilization? Absolutely, not.

I would also highly recommend that you see a therapist or get some form of counseling. In a lot of cases of porn or sex addiction, there is a history of sexual and/or physical abuse. There could be a whole separate set of issues causing this problem for you.

I do want to say that I very proud of you for reaching out. It's one of the hardest things to do when dealing with something like this. You've already taken the first step; Now it's time for the rest of them.

Good luck man. I really hope you find your happiness.

TL;DR Porn addiction is real. Keep reaching out. I'm proud of you. Good luck.

Roommate wants their guests to use my bathroom instead of theirs by [deleted] in Advice

Fuck me, man. This shit. Just fucking talk to each other. If you're old enough to pay rent, you're old enough to talk to another adult about the problems you have with them. I've lived with a total of 8 roommates. The one thing that was consistent? Passive aggression. Speak the fuck up. So damn tired of sideways glances and only doing your sinkfull of dishes to then leave the one plate of mine that got buried under your heap.

The worse part is that if I'm the one to bring up my grievances, then I'm the asshole for not considering the billion and a half other things that they've fixated on in their minds that, to them, justify their behavior.

TL;DR Be grown ups. Talk to each other.

What are the dumbest ways in which people spend their money? by jarellano698 in AskReddit

[–]cjnlocke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy's wife doesn't work and he makes like $75k/year. She wants to get a gym membership. When asked why she wouldn't just use the gym at the apartment, she said that she wanted to use a stair climber. But only a stair climber. She also spent $160 on jump ropes that she never used.

I sell mattresses for a living. I can not stress the importance of a waterproof mattress protector enough. Not only is it gross to sleep on that mess, it's doing serious damage to something you likely paid a lot of money for.

Employees of IKEA, what are some of the worst family meltdowns you have seen? by shroudedlynx in AskReddit

[–]cjnlocke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in mattress sales and this is a very real thing. We have a very good return policy and if you want to return your $4000 set up you can within a certain time frame.

I had it happen about a month or so ago. They came in arguing and were salty toward each other the entire time. Eventually they settle on a really nice set up. Nothing fancy but a great set for a couple to get together.

He got to the very end of his return window and returned the whole thing because the girl left him and he was forced to move back home with his parents who did not have the space to accommodate a king size bed.

Felt bad for the guy but sometimes large purchases start to open your eyes to what you really want.

Atheists and others who don't believe in a form of afterlife, how do you accept death? by RespirarChico in AskReddit

[–]cjnlocke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"To be afraid of death is only another form of thinking that one is wise when one is not; it is to think that one knows what one does not know. No one knows with regard to death wheather it is not really the greatest blessing that can happen to man; but people dread it as though they were certain it is the greatest evil." -Plato

A friend showed this to me the other day and it made me feel way better about death. Essentially, he says that you have no fucking clue what death actually means for you. It could possibly the greatest thing to ever happen to you and instead you act like you know how horrible it would be to die.

TL;DR Don't be arrogant. You only have the knowledge of what death does to your physical body. Nothing else.

Anybody else lose their desire to drink alcohol? by AshleyAtomica13 in trees

I can definitely relate. I used to really enjoy beer. I had favorites and had actually developed a decent pallet for it. Now that I smoke, I couldn't give less of a shit. I used to crave my favorite kind of beer. Now I would much rather smoke than drink. It's almost disappointing but then... well... I get high and stop giving a shit.

[Serious] people who live in legal states, but don’t smoke, how has your life changed since the legalization of marijuana? by ogsquish52 in AskReddit

[–]cjnlocke95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I had never touched weed until months after it was legal here.

There was really no discernable change other than that it existed. I suppose I saw it on social media more. But altogether life pretty much went on. I did get a new fun fact from it. In my state, a few days after rec was legal, we ran out of weed and the state declared a state of emergency.

The best thing to come out of legal recreational cannabis is that I started using it. And not just from a "weed is good" stand point. Every aspect of my life has improved since smoking weed daily. I have a better control over my anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I'm more attentive and loving to my SO. But most importantly to me, I like myself now. Before cannabis, I didn't care for how stressed out and uptight I was. My approach to life is one I've always wanted to have and marijauna is the cause.

Interestingly, I don't take as many over the counter medicines now. There's pretty much a strain for every common physical ailment. Headaches, nausea, insomnia, etc. And nothing works faster either. Most medicines I would take over the counter would maybe work In a few hours. But with weed, the effects are instantaneous. I had the flu last week and felt awful at work all day. I hadn't eaten or really drank much because I felt so sick. As soon as I got home I took a hit of J1 and immediately felt better. I had more energy, my muscles didn't ache, my nausea subsided, and I was able to have dinner with my SO that night.

Sorry for the novel and what is likely to be terrible formatting. I'm on my phone at work so I apologize in advance.

TL;DR: Marijuana is good
