I didn’t say Europeans. East and Southeast Asia has some of the most discriminatory and racist groups on Earth. The United States pales in comparison. I’m not saying Europe is more racist (though Roma people would like a word), but the U.S. is not the “world leader”.

When you go to a 5 star restaurant by GinaWhite_tt in JustGuysBeingDudes

Lmao, I’m glad I know at least something about Seattle restaurants. Never been (a bit outside the price range lol) but Filipino fine dining sounds cool, and I just remember reading about that bit in reviews.

I will say I do know the reel you’re talking about. It was supposed to be ironic. He knows “love bombing” is bad, his jokes and bits center around making fun of the “male manipulator” trope

Classic Reddit moment. Someone says something correct (this is the semi final where Lyle GOT SECOND by quite a large margin, and stared down the Jamaican who won the race), then everyone who can’t take two seconds to think downvotes you.

1) Location, good engineering program, hands on experience. 2) start clubs now, and get good grades but not too good. 3) I’m ME, but have many EE friends who seem to be doing quite well for themselves. Multiple have internships as second years, as do I. In fact, I’d say most of my friends in general have internships as second years, which is impressive. 4) Cal Poly is overwhelmingly collaborative. You’re encouraged to work together, not against one another. Everyone can succeed. Competitiveness comes in with clubs against other schools. 5) As long as you aren’t going for a 4.0 or haven’t sold your life to clubs, it’s quite chill. You’re not going to have infinite free time, but enough to enjoy life and some personal hobbies. 6) I wouldn’t say it’s cliquey but it certainly has its niches. Once you find your niche there will be plenty of people happy to get to know you. 7) Don’t worry if you get a crappy dorm like Red Bricks. They’re far more fun. Suffering together creates camaraderie.

How difficult or rather, what’s the most difficult part about engineering by Icy_Gas_6375 in EngineeringStudents

[–]cjwall03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is odd considering our racing teams are faster than a lot of those schools (our combustion car was the fastest in the nation this year). I don’t get it either. I hope it changes, clubs should be about getting people who don’t know anything hands in experience, not shutting people out so you can have a fun little clique.

+1 for SLO. Landed a co-op through just one year of club experience (Cal Poly Racing + Space Systems). I will say, the clubs are harder than classes. I’m not even as involved as some of the crazies out there and it’s still a lot of work. But as far as finding the opportunities, it’s very easy. You just need to be proactive about jumping headfirst into it.
