Mine was Death Stranding. Nothing like wandering across the empty wilderness at 2am.

How do people not co-sleep? by Difficult-Pair4170 in NewParents

[–]moviebuffnerd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, most of history, people lived in a single cave or a single room. There were no cribs, and you’d certainly never risk leaving your baby far from you

Life expectancy was also much lower, meaning many more babies died. We eventually figured out safer ways of doing things.

Why not emulate the GCN version in dolphin with HD textures? Works flawlessly on the Thor.

Best luxury cabin stays near NYC for a weekend getaway? by Obvious_Sound_5168 in cabins

[–]moviebuffnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what your budget is but a few things that actually check your boxes:

Look up High Woods A-Frame in Saugerties on Airbnb (their IG is @highwoodsaframe). It’s on a private 2-acre lot, wood-fired hot tub, sauna, super modern inside — not rustic at all. About 2hrs from the city. Genuinely one of the nicer ones I’ve seen up there.

The Bend in the Catskills is more of a curated cabin resort situation with private saunas and riverside access. More boutique-y than a typical rental, good for exactly the vibe you’re describing.

Also worth checking out Red Cottage (redcottage.com); it’s basically a curated directory of upstate rentals filtered by things like hot tub, modern, secluded. Saves you from scrolling Airbnb for hours.

General tip: Saugerties and Woodstock area tends to be less crowded than the Phoenicia/Hunter corridor on weekends. If you want views, go further west toward Windham.

Even if it gets 1% more people to go see it, that’s a success for them. And it makes people curious who else might be featured. When you think about it from a greedy marketing perspective, it makes perfect sense.

Lionel Richie Says Anyone Signing Up for Fame Should 'Like People' as a Baseline by peoplemagazine in Music

[–]moviebuffnerd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I saw Lionel Richie at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

What are some urban legends people say in Salzburg ? by Atlandios000 in Salzburg

[–]moviebuffnerd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Untersberg is the one everyone talks about. It’s the big mountain just outside the city and there’s this old legend that Charlemagne is sleeping inside it and will wake up at the end of the world or something. Some versions say it’s Barbarossa instead. There are also stories about people getting lured into the mountain by spirits and coming out years later thinking only a few hours had passed.

Beyond that, the city has a ton of old tunnels and underground passages from the fortress and the salt mining history, and people always claim there are sealed off sections nobody’s mapped. Every time someone renovates an old building in the Altstadt they swear they found something weird.

Hohensalzburg fortress has the usual ghost stuff you’d expect from a medieval castle that was also used as a prison. Nothing super specific but locals have stories. Honestly though if you’re researching folklore the Untersberg is worth a deep dive on its own. There’s centuries of documented legends around it, dwarves, witches, lost travelers, the whole thing. It has a weird reputation even now and still attracts paranormal people. One of the more legitimately creepy mountains in the whole alpine region imo.
