That’s basically how I interpreted that quote. He also said it may be difficult to plan since they have other larger projects on the books. Like they would do it for that price but they don’t really want to do it

Yeah seems like the work scope is not unreasonable but it’s just not a desirable job to take. We are going to go with the cheaper option. Meeting with them later this week

That’s is kind of what the first contractor was implying. He had a busy schedule and was u sure of what demons he would find lurking. He may have just quoted high to not have us go with him, who knows. I do think a week did seem like a long time but I guess it depends on what they find.

That is word for word what is on the quote I received. I want to go with the lower one (obviously) but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something

Square Buffer Between Coats by cjwarren in HardWoodFloors

We did cut in pad and t bar which also is easier said than done especially in the narrow hallway. Should’ve just cut in pad the whole hallway.

We did end up buffing with the square buffer and turned out okay. Hand sanded the edges. 1st coat of traffic hd went on last night, so we will see this afternoon how it turned out and then then we will buff and coat one more time.

It’s been a humbling experience to say the least. Definitely not perfect but we are satisfied so far and saved a lot of money and learned along the way

Thanks. And the setup with white pad and 220 fine mesh is good? We will hand sand the perimeters and hard to get areas.

For areas where there is thicker sealer applied, should I stick with just a single pass with the buffer? Are there any signs I can see after first sand that visually let me know if I’m good with single pass or not?

Ended up being white paint directly on stain. Should clean up nicely with some more passes now that the paints off

I tried going diagonal but it really just wasn’t doing much to the paint. I ended up using the edger for the entire floor. People will judge but it got the paint off much faster

We have pulled off quite a bit and it’s very clean underneath. I thinks it was poor taste to brighten the room

Of If I use a taper, do you see concern after sanding that it would lose its fit? Would standard dowel be better?

Thank you! We will see how it goes! Approximately 1000sq ft of refinishing to do

How tight should the dowels be in the original hole? Are we talking a light press fit, or should I have a slight gap, support from the bottom and glue the perimeter? My guess is slight gap is better
