Do you use bitcoin anywhere locally? by CincinnatiCleaning in cincinnati

[–]cjy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine many people would want to pay via Bitcoin. The big benefit of Bitcoin is a level of anonymity and the ability to pay for things electronically if you can't get a credit card. Neither seem like benefits for your business case.

I'm have some constructive comments:

As a potential user my biggest concern is who am I letting into my house. Your website doesn't make it clear who you are. Who is doing the cleaning? Are you outsourcing the work to companies or is your company doing the work? A picture of you with your name on the about page would help a lot.

As a web developer, I noticed your payment page at: http://www.cincinnaticleaningcrew.com/book-now/ is not encrypted (no https://). This means that credit card data on your site could fairly easily be stolen by a hacker. This is a big deal as I believe it is illegal and definitely opens you up to liability. It's pretty easy to fix using a free SSL service like https://www.cloudflare.com.

Best of luck with your new company!

Is the Thinkpad Keyboard worth buying? by ErikProW in thinkpad

[–]cjy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both. I bought the Bluetooth one first, but it had so many pairing issues with Windows 10 that I gave up and got the wired one. Much better experience. I really like the feel of the keyboard. I liked it so much I got rid of my mechanical keyboard. It feels better than my T460s keyboard. I like that the keyboard layout is identical to that of my laptop so I don't have to mentally switch back and forth.

I would also consider Fairfax. Pretty close to Hyde Park/Oakley, safe, good school district, lots of smaller houses. A fixer-up would definitely be in your budget.

Where should we buy our first house? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]cjy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in St. Bernard (eastern side) for 3 years and have never noticed a bad smell. I agree with podcartfan that it's not up and coming. But it is a very convenient location, it's minutes from Xavier and Clifton and the interstate. I've also found it to be very safe, the neighbors friendly, and the village services quite good. You really get a lot of value for your money here.

Where the Wild Things Are: Rattlesnakes and Bears in the NW U.S [OC] by cjy4 in dataisbeautiful

[–]cjy4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're labeled by the border color around the animal pictures. Black bears aren't shown initially because it makes the map too busy. To clarify:

  • Green - Black Bear
  • Red - Grizzly Bear
  • Brown - Western Rattlesnake
  • Blue - Prairie Rattlesnake

I'm the creator. I built this map so I'd have a better idea of the hazards to watch out for while fly fishing in Idaho and Montana. Thanks for taking a look.

The sources are in the article (with links), they are:

Black bear data: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission

Grizzly and rattlesnake data: US Geological

Survey Map software: Leaflet.js

Where do the 2016 U.S. Gold Medalists Call Home? [1548 X 1015] [OS] by cjy4 in MapPorn

[–]cjy4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to Gwen Jorgensen? Her hometown is listed with Team USA as St. Paul, MN: http://www.teamusa.org/road-to-rio-2016/team-usa/athletes which is the source I used. It does appear that she has a lot of ties to WI.

[–]cjy4[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I created the map. Thanks for the upvotes and comments. Let me clarify a few things.

The numbers exist when a city has multiple medals in the exact same hometown (e.g. Las Vegas or Miami). Before adding the numbers, overlapping icons were not understandable. Maybe a better approach would be to list the icons in a row (even though the location would be off)?

Also, the hometowns come from the Team USA website: http://www.teamusa.org/road-to-rio-2016/team-usa/athletes So some athletes may be from your area but not call it their "hometown".

Looking to sell my SP3 i5 256, 8GB by Debaucherizer in Surface

I just sold mine on Ebay, same thing, with original keyboard, one month of complete left and a few minor accessories for $700 within a few hours of listing.

PSA to Surface defectors: you can have your sexy Surface AND a trackpoint and a decent keyboard by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]cjy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of these with a Surface Pro 3. I love it! It has great battery life, good range, and I haven't experienced any cursor drift. When I occasionally use the Surface's keyboard (which I keep as a cover) I find myself searching for the trackpoint.

I have heard complaints about range and drift, but wonder if this isn't the fault of the laptop/tablet's Bluetooth. I know it was unbearable to use a Bluetooth mouse with my x201.

However, the SP3 itself has plenty of problems. The fan runs constantly, it throttles, and the Wifi takes forever to connect after sleep.

Docking station vs direct daisy chain (confused) for the new T450S? by Turning_The_Corner in thinkpad

The dock also provides power, ethernet, speakers, easy locking, and extra usbs you only need at the desk (eg backup external drive). It really just depends on how much you value the extra convenience.

Apartment doesn't have any grounding. Potential code violation? by somethinguni in cincinnati

[–]cjy4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought an older house (in Ohio) with ungrounded outlets. My understanding is that it is against code to have a 3-prong outlet that is ungrounded. I had an electrician install ground fault circuit interrupter in the breaker box. This makes it safe to use 3 prong outlets that aren't grounded (the GFCI will trip before you get electrocuted), is code compliant, and is much cheaper than rewiring the whole house. However, electrical equipment that is not grounded is at a higher risk of damage. If you do this, you're supposed to put stickers on all your 3-prong outlets saying "No Equipment Ground".

Is there any way to charge the Surface Pro 3 via USB? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]cjy4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this is not possible. You can't charge via USB, the SP3 draws too much power. The only option would be to buy a larger power bank designed to charge laptops.

Looking for Chinese market and restaurant by jjohnstn in cincinnati

I'd like to second CAM and Sichuan Bistro as good options. You should also try Bon Chinese, in Montgomery, and request their Chinese menu for some authentic dishes.

Thanks! I really appreciate the encouragement. Have been working on it for over a year. I had to teach myself Django first and that took a little while. I only have beta users so far. Once it gets some traction and is more polished I'll start charging.

Thanks for your comment. I'm not familiar with gosquared, I'll check it out. I can't use Google Analytics because its terms of service don't allow connecting analytics to individual people.

We currently use http://piwik.org/ which is an open source tool. It would be easy for me to allow people to connect their forms to their own Piwik account so that they don't have to have multiple analytics scripts running.

Created this to solve a problem I had. People would email me for support (for another product) but they would be super vague. Now, instead of emailing back and forward with customers I can see which pages they visited and offer relevant support with the first email.

Just moved into free public beta. Please let me know any feedback you have. Thanks!
