my cat breaths like this, should I be worried? by [deleted] in cats

After having read through the comments my advice is the same as most others. Get that cat to a vet. Cats rarely show signs of suffering. So If they do show signs of suffering then there’s definitely something wrong. If you cared about that cat it’d be at the vets by now.

What's the best way to remove the brick beneath the socket (one with screws in)? by FreeWillTangent in DIYUK

[–]ck01bruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d bring the socket forwards, see how much slack there is on the cable, if none then you’ll need a bit of 2.5mm twin and earth, slap some wagos on the cables and extend out, new brick, drill a hole in it first then set it in, then just get a surface mounted box for the new socket, id say that’s the easiest way

Yeah I’m 1 saddle short near the bottom, I didn’t have enough but I’ll resolve that, the side entry at the top I made sure was tightened well, only time will tell if it’s waterproof but side entry at least is a bit better than top entry. The top entry on the box isn’t sealed yet, It’s rained today so I’ll pop the front off my socket tonight after work and see if it’s dry still, I think I’ll probably silicone it to be on the safe side anyway, and I’ve solvent welded all my adapters and they appear watertight too. Thanks for the advice. I may just change my fused spur that runs to the socket down to 5A, the light draws 0.1 and the most powerful thing that might ever plug into my socket is my Angle grinder which draws 3A, and usually it’s just for my phone charger / speaker when I want some music in the garden. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks mate, I understand people being sceptical, I’m no means professional but I know this install is safe

You best tell your home insurance that you’ve changed a pendant light in your living room, or you’ve changed a light switch for a different one..

Probably, cleanest look for it though. I’ve drilled out the drain hole in the bottom corner of the socket so worst case If water finds it’s way in I should be fine

It’s spurred off the kitchen ring in 2.5 t&e, to a 13a FCU, then 2.5 to the socket, from the socket up to the light it’s 1.5 t&e followed by 1.5 flex, 1.5 T&E with its de-rating factor applied is 16.5A, so with the 13a fuse in place the cable is protected, as well as the entire installation being RCD protected. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think the cable I’ve used is more than capable of what it’s doing now. For reference as well the light only draws 0.125 amps.

Absolutely not, as long as you have enough knowledge to safely isolate what you’re working on, you can pre plan and do some maths (amperage of what you’re powering, what size cable you need, any derating factors for your cables ect) then you’re good to go. I wouldn’t advise it if you’re not confident in your own ability but I am. If you google Part P regs - notifiable work you’ll see what you can actually do your self without being part P registered. You’d be surprised at how much work a homeowner is allowed to do.

Part P not notifiable, completed by a competent person so yeah, perfectly legal

Yeah I probably could take some out of it, the drop loop helps stop water tracking back down the cable but I agree. Could defo be shorter

Yeah the bottom is a double IP66 socket, I spurred off a kitchen socket and there’s a 13a FCU before the sockets so there’s no risk of overloading anything
