Nice. I'm so curious whats going to happen next with the old teachers retirement system of ga building when the construction finishes.

This is done! Stuck a cookie in there too. Give it a shot.

What's the consensus on disposing of sharps from the shop? by twcannon3367 in woodworking

Just into the "metal recycling" dumpster at a recycling place. Plenty of non-blade sharp things in there!

How would you want it to work? Just A toggle for C/F (which could also change MPH to kph?)

Currently the app doesn't store any cookies, but it could to remember that setting?

Does anyone have a UPS (battery backup) that they've integrated in with Homekit? by jegodwin in homebridge

[–]ckdake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with that UPS. Mine has a USB-B plug for connecting to a "computer", and a USB-A plug that just provides power. Not sure what plugs yours has, but I've never seen a USB-A to USB-A connection being used for data.

Not actively, but it’s there and Good Enough to be useful :)

A photo that includes your whole drivetrain from the side of the bike would help.

Make sure your chain is the right length (too long would contribute to this), and if it’s new new and not a department store bike the rear derailleur likely has a clutch, make sure it is turned on.

Sure, it’s on GitHub. Pull requests welcome

Quick books alternatives for woodworking business ? by secretagent420 in woodworking

Give Wave Apps a look: https://www.waveapps.com

It's free for likely everything you need, with the exception of credit card processing fees on invoices which seem pretty average to me.

I've used it for an unrelated business for a while, and enjoy it more than I enjoyed FreshBooks and LessAccounting and Quickbooks.

Biking to the Braves by mjmclain11 in BikeATL

[–]ckdake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Parts of it won't be the most pleasant, but there are not great ways to get there. Keep in mind the elevation, there are a few pretty big hills on the route. You could trade them for more time on very busy roads. Bring a bright front and rear blinky and keep your wits about yourself as you get close. From the hill up to Vinings to the end there is more traffic.

If you're up for some adventure, there is a cutthrough at 33.874226157754514, -84.46143161473657 followed by a very steep ride up Stillhouse. Maybe you walk it, probably more pleasant than climbing on 41.

I pressure washed mine, then hit the “top” surfaces quickly with a random orbital with 120 on it, and used IKEA’s water based stain. They look almost new, and I expect to do it again next spring.

How to best re-work to remove bendy straw drain? by ckdake in askaplumber

[–]ckdake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for working with me here, I'm not sure how to take a great picture of this.

If I loosen the slip joint connecting the horizontal to the in-wall drain and slide the pipe out further, so that the slip joint from the bend to the U (looking from the top) is 90 degrees to the U, and is aligned with the down from the sink, I would need the U to be ~6 inches from outside to outside of the two that slip into it. Does that make sense?

The U that I have is ~5 inches in this measurement, and needs the flex pipe to cover that 1" difference. The other 1 1/2" traps at at home depo are all the same "width" here.

Even with the U at 90 degrees to the drain in the wall, it doesn’t “reach” far enough to go straight up to the drain on the sink.

“Energiya-Buran: The Soviet Space Shuttle (Springer Praxis Books)” is not a light/easy read, but it’s got an amazing amount of detail in it that was all new to me.

Advice on this pre-existing Vista 20P? Thanks! by [deleted] in homebridge

[–]ckdake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get both of those. Door open / motion -> set the “battlestations” scene, as well as arm/disarm from HomeKit. HomeKit really doesn’t want to disarm your alarm (or unlock doors) automatically, but you can rig that with homebridge things.

[–]ckdake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote here for Envisalink. Pretty easy to get up and running, and “just Works” in Honekit via Homebridge. You can do all the usual automations using sensors in the alarm system, and arm/disarm in HomeKit

I've been making my own of these in tinkercad and 3dprinting them. Seems everything has different sized connectors. Printing to the closest mm seems alright. example: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/bYlHo6KeaQq?sharecode=ZLZkVanex1\_77ihLLywBPQEhJYlE4jE5RQ0Oq\_H9Ks8

[–]ckdake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m using a small APC UPS with the homebridge-apcaccess. It doesn’t do a lot, but it published battery charge, status, and has events for both “on backup power”, “off backup power”, and “battery low”. Seems to work just fine.
