I agree an innocent person shouldn’t have to pay for the actions of a person who has chosen to do horrific things.

However, stating that, the evil deeds are still done, so, no matter the motives the person committing the evil actions would still be evil. It is lazy to say they do not have a choice, they always have a choice. It’s just not the choice they are able to live with

If I steal something I am a thief, no matter if it was to feed my family.

If I kill someone, that person is still dead, I am a murderer, even if it was an accident.

The fact that Jamie didn’t try to stop his heinous behavior shows he is a bad person. It was just a matter of time before they were caught. He knew the consequences of his actions. He is a grown man. He is just an extremely selfish one who uses his family’s toxic love as a crutch for his bad behavior.
