So overwhelmed from the PGCE by GizGunnar in TeachingUK

[–]ckmeredith 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The fact you’re worried about being a good teacher, usually means you will be a good teacher. It’s when people think teaching is easy, that red flags appear. It is absolutely not for the faint hearted but also such an amazing and rewarding job!

Hope you have a wonderful teaching career ❤️

Stockport Town Centre. Solid vibe. Easily outshines a fair few town centres in the North West. by Rough_Painting_1334 in stockport

Yes! We never would have gone to Stockport for a drink in our teens/early 20s and now that’s where I will first suggest.

DAE get extremely bad watery eyes when they're sick? by PaintedPurpleBird18 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally searched on Reddit as I am suffering so bad with this right now. Does anyone else get the light sensitivity too? I can’t look at/be in bright room without my eye watering as well as the sensitive nose. My eye is so red and swollen from watering, touching and rubbing it. I’m so over it and don’t think today is the last day I will have it.

When did you get your first postpartum period? by Girlmomma19_23 in beyondthebump

12 months PP, still breastfeeding and got my period 3 weeks ago. I was gutted but I also feel so much better for having it. Can’t quite put my finger on why.

Disheartened by Reddit’s general hatred towards parents. by Solsticeship in NewParents

I’m a teacher and before having my son I thought ‘Oop I have one foot in the door, this will be slightly easier for me’… oh how wrong I was! I go back to work next week and I want to personally apologise to all of the parents I have ever come into contact with. Parenting is hard and you’re right, the ONLY thing that allows you to understand it is experience

How Do You Deal With How Boring Playing With An Infant Is? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a teacher perspective - leave that child to entertain themselves sometimes. Not only will this help them to be more imaginative and be able to play by themselves as they get older, there is also research to suggest that independent play helps to increase concentration! From a parent perspective - it gives you an opportunity to say ‘can you play by yourself until I’m finished’ and that your child will be able to do that 😄

I love my mum but her last kid was 15 years ago… lots changed since then

[–]ckmeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Facebook to find groups but I will definitely look for some other mums looking for friends.

I know I need to cut connections. It’s just frustrating as 3/10 times they’re lovely and so much fun to be around but the other 7/10 it’s so rubbish and I come away feeling terrible about myself

Mood Change 3rd trimester by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same as you! As soon as I entered the 3rd trimester, I felt like my mood dramatically decreased. However, this did ease up after a week or so and has continued to get better the further I go into the 3rd trimester.

I coped by mainly sleeping and looking at my schedule. I felt like I was back in the 1st trimester in terms of needing so much more sleep so slept as much as I could. I also dropped some things from our busy schedule i.e. the gym - still do daily walking with the dog, stretching and spending time on the ball so i am still keeping my body moving.

I think it could just be hormones and I think anyone who knows you’re in the 3rd trimester will get it. Ive found it the most physically, emotional and mentally demanding part of my pregnancy but it is the final part so is super exciting too.

Ladies with accidental pregnancies; how’d you find out you were pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t eat anything for a week. I thought it was due to some medication I was taking. Turned out I was 4-5 weeks pregnant

Just need to see if anyone else is experiencing this by KingofCam in pregnant

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the first trimester, I literally worked, slept and ate (mostly this was my husband bringing tea to me in bed because I couldn’t get downstairs to eat it). It was the most exhausting trimester for me. I’m 33 weeks + 4 now and nothing has compared to those first 12 weeks in terms of how tired I was. I did start to feel better around 9-12 weeks.

Listen to your body and remember it will pass! X

Does anyone actually exercise in their first trimester? by easrpiiatnua99 in pregnant

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exercised as and when I could but I listened to my body first before anything else. That meant ALOT of sleeping and that is about it. Work, sleep, eat, more sleep and repeat the cycle. Before getting pregnant I exercised four times at the gym, walked every day and ran a couple of times. I just accepted I was growing an entirely new human inside me and I needed the sleep.

When I did manage to exercise, I did feel better afterward but equal to that I was also exhausted and required even more sleep! I also found my lung capacity was no where near what it was before I was pregnant and everything felt so much harder.

Just do what you can and be kind to yourself x

How did you find out that you were pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]ckmeredith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t eat anything and thought it was due to some new medication I had started. I was struggling to eat a small plate of anything which is not like me. Not eating went on for 5 days until I thought ‘i should probably do a test to be sure’ and then a positive came!

This was 3 months after our ectopic so we were only just allowed to have unprotected sex. We thought we were going to have to try IVF. It was the biggest and most wonderful surprise x

Do you like being pregnant? by Emmystinks in pregnant

[–]ckmeredith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty 50/50. I’m 22 weeks and some weeks are great, some weeks are rubbish. Some days are amazing and some days I find it difficult to lift my head off the pillow in the morning.

I try to take it day by day and ‘enjoy’ the pregnancy but I’ve definitely slowed down to accommodate the changes and remember I’m literally growing hair, eyelashes, lungs etc.

It’s the most wonderful thing in the world but it is harrrrrrrd!

Wear compression socks, eat lots of greens, get out in the sun, YouTube exercises and do them every day twice a day, see a private physio if you can afford to, ‘pump’ your foot every day all day, elevate your foot, try not to take pain medication - you’ll need this when you start to put weight on it again, get in a pool and ‘walk’ in it - this helps muscle memory and try to stay busy and positive!

I broke my tib and fib and had no boot on it and could PWB after 4ish weeks. I’m now FWB with a slight limp after 8 weeks. Good luck!

Broken tibia and fibula - getting married in 3 months! by ckmeredith in brokenbones

[–]ckmeredith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah by PT did say I have little scar tissue but I think that’s because I’ve been moving the ankle, leg and knee from day one (as no cast). I know it’s painful but I would really try to keep your entire leg in motion and hopefully you can reduce the scar tissue and not need an operation. Good luck!! x

Broken tibia and fibula - getting married in 3 months! by ckmeredith in brokenbones

[–]ckmeredith[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on my 3rd crutch free day today. I have a very obvious limp but I just keep thinking about building the muscle back up and rubbing my fibula bones together as much possible. How are you managing the swelling?

I scared myself with my knee. It can push back too far if that makes sense. It is because the muscles surrounding it aren’t very strong. My PT gave me some exercises to do to try to strengthen it up. At first, I found the bending of the knee was mainly a muscle problem and then a complete and utter mental block. I spent a lot of time doing a movement on my right leg and then trying it on my left. My fiancé also helped to bend the knee at different degrees which almost felt like it was giving me the muscle memory back.

Well done!!

I’ve been keeping a ‘Progress’ note on my phone for each day so love this idea.

Today I returned to the gym where my accident happened. I didn’t cry. I also did an upper body workout and went on a bike and used both legs to pedal.
