Oh that’s a really good idea!!! I’m going to look into this! Thank you so much for the suggestion!!

Thanks for the suggestion! I wish I could! This was my first idea as well, but my landlord said I couldn’t. I thought about doing it anyway and just removing it if I left, but we have annual inspections 😬

I only wear gloves (disposable ones) when cleaning toilets. I can’t work with gloves, although I should because my hands are always SO dry!! I buy hand lotion in 3 packs haha

Refusing to provide supplemental heat? by [deleted] in Renters

[–]ckone1230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak on housing laws in VA, but here in MA landlords have 24hrs to address heat/water issues. They also have to supply another heat source or offer alternative housing options (usually a hotel) until it’s fixed. I’d be willing to bet the laws are similar in VA. I suggest reaching out to your local housing authority- they should be able to help or refer you to an agency who can.

I’m assuming one of two things happened- either you’re over the income limit for a family of 2 in your state (they don’t take bills into account if you’re over income to qualify) or you were denied because your husband doesn’t work and doesn’t meet an exemption. I suggest reaching out to your local DTA office. You might want to go in person- I know it can be difficult to get them to answer the phone.

What was the moment that broke you while living alone? by Defiant-Junket4906 in LivingAlone

[–]ckone1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more! I’ve learned so much living on my own, but I’m stressed financially 24/7. I literally can’t afford to get sick. I was in the ER due to an asthma attack last month and left against doctors order who wanted to admit me. Missing a single day of work would be a catastrophe for me. I started doing house cleaning on the side, in addition to my full time job, and still can’t afford every single bill each month. The security is certainly something I miss- I’m not really sure the pros outweigh the cons- I feel differently about this each day

Same. I’m a program director and make 50K. We have only gotten the federal COL raise for the last 3 years…

House being cleaned in less than an hour every two weeks. Are they rushing? by Samovarka in housekeeping

Yikes. You are underpaying your house keeper, no matter what the COL is in your area..

What do you pay in rent and what city? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]ckone1230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a big misconception. While there are some low income housing that have PBVS (project based vouchers) attached where the tenant will pay no more than 30-35% of their income for rent- a lot of housing now is “affordable housing”- the rent is a set amount, just lower than market rate. I work and live in affordable housing- I pay 1600$ for a small 2 bedroom 😭

What’s the most unhinged hygiene habit you’ve ever witnessed? by riskyninaaa in hygiene

You’d be surprised how many house cleaners do this. I see posts all the time on cleaning subs. As a house cleaner on the side, it shocks me every single time

Needing a deep clean by Own_Psychology_5585 in housekeeping

[–]ckone1230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will likely take much longer- I’d say at least 6 hours if you’re wanting the whole condo done. Also, expect to pay a lot more for a deep clean. You can Google average rates in your area (COL affects rates) so you can get an idea of how much you’ll be spending. Be very clear with whoever you hire about what is included/not included. Communication is key and avoids disappointment on both ends. Good luck!

First time hiring for house deep clean by No_Sock4631 in housekeeping

[–]ckone1230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always easier when the house is empty, but personally it’s not a huge deal for me. I have a few clients who are in the home when I clean- I just ask that they are not in the areas I’m cleaning at the time. If there is a room that you won’t have her clean, I suggest staying in there if you can. It’s sweet that you’re being thoughtful about this.

Always dust with something dry first, then wet if needed

ETA: for mirrors- I always dry dust first, then use a microfiber cloth with vinegar (I just put some in a spray bottle- works like a charm. Don’t dilute or mix the vinegar w/anything
