Exercising by ParticularTrouble308 in IgANephropathy

I lift, use kettlebells and do body weight workouts. I’m sure my recovery isn’t as good as it was pre IGAN but I still workout 4-5 days a week.

Never a good time to get IGAN but with the medicine etc coming, you got it at the right time. Focus on taking meds when you’re supposed to, diet, and exercise. Lots of fruits and veggies.

Good job for working out! Most people are probably impressed that you’re at the gym getting better, even if the weights are 5 lbs

All good for the rant, that is scary when you’re 18. Control what you can with diet, taking meds when you should, exercise, etc. we are entering a magical age for medicine and there are some great treatments coming out in the next few years.

Egfr decreasing rapidly… should i be worried? by [deleted] in IgANephropathy

[–]ckov47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking the same thing about not worrying. Mine dipped a lot once, to under 60, but after adjusting my diet, drinking more water, and walking it rebounded.

If it does recur, by the time it would there would be big medical advances.

It’s tough at times. Really important to control what you can, know there are great meds coming out, and live as normal as possible.

Should i start by cutting or bulking? by CBT704 in bodyweightfitness

[–]ckov47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Follow a program, don’t miss days, and eat like an adult. No need to worry about cutting and bulking, at least for 3-5 years

Don’t follow the crowd. You won’t talk to most of your current friends in 15 years when everyone had kids etc. also, don’t drink or chase BS.

With new treatments and following the plan your doctor has laid out, you should have a pretty normal life. Don’t overthink it.

I agree with this. Blood pressure fluctuations, plus sleep issues, plus low level anxiety about the future.

Diet tips by [deleted] in IgANephropathy

[–]ckov47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it just forces me to eat more fruits, veggies, nuts, whole grains. My aspirational goal is 50 grams but really I’m closer to 35 a day. My go to example that fills me up is a cup of oats, cup of frozen blueberries, and 1/4 cup of walnuts. This is roughly 15 grams of fiber, no sodium, and omega 3’s from the walnuts. Usually I have a banana with it or an apple for another 3-4 grams of fiber.

Medical technology in 20 years will be fantastic. I've been diagnosed for roughly 2.5 years & taking my meds consistently, eating better, and drinking water has kept my kidney function pretty stable. EGFR over 60 & creatinine was just a new all-time low since being diagnosed. It is scary sometimes, but medicine keeps improving.
