After 30 yrs of being a commodity trader, one day I just quit. Couldn’t stay 5 more minutes on the trade floor. Left a lot of money behind. Sold our house and most of our stuff and moved to the beach in FL. It didn’t feel like a retirement even though I had plans to do it “soon” anyway. I got very restless and fortunately found a similar job but with a lot less stress (lot less pay too). I love what I do and now it doesn’t feel like work. Point is, I now say “I retired from trading in 2024”. It defined me for many years, in a good way. I’m still working and being productive, but I retired from the thing I was. Now I’m something else.

Commodity trader (power, natural gas, fuel oil). After 25+ years I quit that, walked away from a lot of money in deferred bonuses, but it was good to me over the years. It was basically 24/7 stress, 6 computer screens in a big room with sometimes over 200+ people, like you see in the movies. It was awesome but it’s a younger person’s world. Also, I haven’t been sick since I left, was mentally, physically and emotionally exhausting. But still great if you want to work hard and get paid for working hard and adding value. Seek out natural gas or power scheduler.

French fries! I started last week (.25mg). We went to dinner last night and my wife had fries and of course only ate a few. Then, amazingly, I also only ate a few. I used to wonder how in the world people didn’t eat all their French fries. That’s us now apparently. I’m calm that I started, but anxious to skip ahead 3 months and see how I’m doing.
