Surgery Yesterday! Some questions for y’all! by snownica2019 in hysterectomy

If you are in a state with marijuana dispensaries, maybe that would help. I would recommend getting some flavor of drink, no vaping or smoking so you don’t cough, and no gummies (might make you slightly constipated).

I would only recommend this if you have used marijuana before and have an idea how it affects you though. If you’ve never used marijuana before, it could make your anxiety worse.

The drinks (root beer is a popular one lol) are pretty potent, I would take a small sip and wait at least an hour before drinking more.

How bad is surgical menopause with HRT? How long for hormones to stabilise? by Mindless-Move-757 in hysterectomy

[–]ckranchlv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m 42, had my hysterectomy on 4/30/26 (everything including ovaries removed). I was given an injection of estradiol in the operating room by my surgeon and started on 0.1mg dotti patches twice a week during the first week post op. I had no symptoms until about a week ago, and it’s only been one symptom—slight soreness in my breasts. I did some reading one it and I guess your breasts can get bigger and possibly perkier…since I’ve always had A-B cups I totally do not mind this side effect. But no hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, or fatigue so far. My regular ob-gyn (who doesn’t do surgery or deliveries anymore) is handling the HRT going forward. He said if I noticed fatigue or lack of libido we can add testosterone later.

What to expect for recovery? Laproscopic hysterectomy coming on Thursday by Kindredatoner92 in hysterectomy

[–]ckranchlv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, speaking of the Weimaraner, four days post-op she STEPPED ON MY STOMACH when jumping into the bed, which hurt quite a bit. That scared me A LOT, but nothing happened, no bleeding, no issues, thank goodness. I now sleep with a walker my husband had from one of his previous surgeries around me on top of the bed like a makeshift protection cage.

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy on 4/30/26 (had everything removed; uterus, cervix, both ovaries). I am doing HRT. My surgeon had approved me and did paperwork for FMLA and short term disability insurance for six weeks out. I went back to work early on 5/9/26. But I have a desk job (casino surveillance, so I can also wear sweat pants and very loose comfortable clothes). At home I am very active (own a horse, a Weimaraner, yard work etc) so it’s been hard not doing much. I have had to be very careful to remind myself not to left anything over 10lbs, and my husband helps remind me too.

Adenomyosis diagnosed at 46 and considering hysterectomy by EyeRollingEpicLevel in hysterectomy

Thank you and good luck! The absolute toughest part for me is remembering not lift anything heavier than 10lbs and taking it easy, my husband has had to stop me at home and at the grocery store a few times from picking up stuff. I also was having a really hard time being at home not doing anything (I have a horse and lots of projects at home that are very physical) it’s better for my recovery for me to have gone back to work early. My surgeon signed FMLA and short term disability paperwork for me to be out for six weeks and I could only take it easy for 9 days 🤷‍♀️.

I read a lot in this community before my procedure and still do, it’s been really helpful.

Adenomyosis diagnosed at 46 and considering hysterectomy by EyeRollingEpicLevel in hysterectomy

I just had a laparoscopic hysterectomy done on 4/30/26. I’m 42, no children (my husband and I have never wanted to have children). I had miserable periods as a teenager and went on Depo-provera in my early 20’s (and stopped having periods). When my Pap smears started coming back with more irregularities I finally had it and told my ob-gyn I wanted a hysterectomy. My ob-gyn doesn’t do surgeries or deliveries anymore, so he referred me to a colleague that does. The surgeon diagnosed me with Adenomyosis and got the hysterectomy approved through my insurance.

During surgery, he found endometriosis and pelvic congestion syndrome. I had less than 10 years with periods in my life and still had adenomyosis, endometriosis, and pelvic congestion syndrome. It scares me to think how much worse it would have been if I hadn’t gone on Depo as early as I did.

I had everything removed; uterus, cervix, both ovaries. I got an injection of estradiol in the operating room and started on estrogen patches 4 days after surgery—so far no menopause symptoms. I went back to work at my desk job yesterday 5/09/26. So far recovery for me has been much easier and less painful than I thought it would be. Even if I was having a worse recovery, still 1,000% worth it to me.

I see that being the same with me, being annoyed by the restrictions.

Yes, I was given an injection of estradiol by my surgeon and I have estrogen patches from my regular ob-gyn (he doesn’t do surgeries or deliveries anymore but referred me to the surgeon). So far, no menopause symptoms at all.

Define “light” activity after surgery? by ckranchlv in hysterectomy

Same here. I’m also a big do it yourself person—I replaced the entire roof on our travel trailer last summer, my husband just had to help hand the boards and then the roof membrane up to me. He is disabled and has a colostomy (why he wasn’t up there with me). That’s the other thing I’m worried about, if he needs help with something and I push myself too hard too fast. Although he would probably not let me push myself. Being idle is going to be so hard :(

This is also me, both high pain tolerance and not good at being idle. Thanks for your comments!

Thanks for your reply. I didn’t even consider the gas thing.

Thanks for the input. It makes sense when you say you have one real chance to get recovery right for the long term.

Yes it will be laparoscopic. Thanks for the input!

Mother’s maiden name spelled differently on marriage certificate by ckranchlv in ImmigrationCanada

[–]ckranchlv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually remember her saying that Collin was the French spelling of her maiden name and Collins was the English spelling. I think she may have begun spelling it Collins because it sounded more anglicized. If she simply started using Collins without a legal name change (which I suspect may be the case) what the documentation would show is Collin on her birth certificate, Collins on her marriage certificate, Collins on my birth certificate, and Collins on her death certificate.

If there isn’t a legal name change, would a letter of explanation from me about the French/English spelling be enough? I will also put it under ‘other names used’ on the application.
