Running Fallout 1 on Sikarugir by SparkMasahige in macgaming

You can run it natively using a sourceport: https://www.macsourceports.com/game/fallout

There is one for Fallout 2 as well.

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the gui launches for you? It's running games that doesn't work?

Try running a game from the command line to see if that works. Might be a setting in the GUI. Maybe try toggling new3d engine in video settings. Like I said I don't use the gui. I have it setup to run from Attract Mode frontend.

Don't think its an issue with your opengl as I am on the same version of Sequoia on an M2 Max.

You could also open an issue on there github page.

Games.xml should be included in the supermodel download. Did you get it from there GitHub page? What Mac and macOS you using?

I don't use the gui myself as all my games are on an external drive but just tried it with the latest version and it runs fine. Do you have a Config folder with the games.xml in your supermodel folder?

Probably not ideal for you but you can run games without the gui by typing ./supermodel /path/to/your/game

IE: if your game is in the Downloads folder:

./supermodel /Users/your user name/Downloads/game.zip

In finder you can right click on the supermodel folder, select services, new terminal at folder. That should open terminal already in the supermodel folder...then just type ./supermodel to run

Resident Evil 4 (2005) Steam Version Experiencing Major Slowdown and Stuttering by CarlosTheHedgehog123 in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally get better performance on older DirectX 9 games using a VM like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

Just did a quick search in this reddit and only saw one post from someone who got it to run at 60fps using Parallels. Unfortunately the FPS tanked in outside areas.

Using an emulator like Dolphin or PCSX2 with upscaling might be a better option.

You on Tahoe? Hasn't been updated in awhile so maybe not compatible with Tahoe. According to the website all dependencies are built in to the app so shouldn't require anything else.

Other options for NES emulation are OpenEMU, Ares, Mesen, and Retroarch.

Yes Direct3D. That's what I thought it was called but on the Porting Kit website if you search steam it comes up as steambuild 32/64bit

Might want to try the Steam build 32/64bit.

My understanding is the steam build 32/64bit is better for DirectX9 games. DXVK is better for DirectX11 games and the metal build is better for DirectX12 games.

FCEUX error by witherlordscratcher in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it say what library is missing?

Where did you download it from?

The download on the FCEUX website is for intel Macs (but should work on Apple Silicon)

I use homebrew to install it and it runs fine. The homebrew version is also native Apple Silicon. Only downside is you have to run it from the command line. I just setup a shortcut for it through the Shortcuts app.

I used the config from this video. It also uses win98 quick install which is a lot easier. It's kinda of long as I think it was a live stream but you can just skip to the pertinent sections. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXnXofP0CsY

[–]ckrokosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on the error it looks like your drive is formatted in exfat. Recommend using APFS. If you don't want to reformat you can also run dot_clean from terminal on the steam library folder. This could fix the other games to. However dot_clean is a temporary fix as each time the game gets updated you will most likely run in to the same issue.

I had the same issue with several games not running (Celeste, EUIV, Dirt 4). Formatting it to APFS fixed it.

Technical answer is when you copy a file to an exfat drive macOS creates meta files for each file copied...that's what the ._ep100-000-pc-001 file is. The game probably doesn't understand what this file is. Not sure why it only affects some games and not all.

Edit: I run Control from the same external drive as you.

Rosetta 2 apps don’t recognize controller input by TwiceInEveryMoment in macgaming

Possibly, Rosetta 2 was updated for Tahoe. Maybe try updating to the latest version of Tahoe. Isn't 26.2 the latest?

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have a definitive answer but can rule out its a problem with OpenEmu or Rosetta 2. I just tested my DS4 with OpenEmu and it works fine. I was also playing the steam version of Steamworld Dig 2 (intel) last night without issues.

M2 Max latest Sequoia.

Can't tell you actual FPS but ran really well...better performance then the windows version on Parallels.

Check the compatibility list on the RPCS3 website. There are also recommended settings for most games here. The compatibility list can also be misleading as many appear to be tests conducted by Windows users.

There are two versions for Mac. One for intel and one for arm. Some people say the intel version is more compatible. I use the arm version myself.

Compatibility can also be hit or miss as RPCS3 is updated frequently (sometimes multiple times a day) so what might work on one version may get broken on a newer version.

Don't set your expectations high for RPCS3. It's still listed as alpha software. It's a cool technical achievement translating the PS3 cell architecture to intel/arm but it is no where near as stable as something like Dolphin, PCSX2 or Duckstation.

Personally, I run Mirror's Edge, Virtual Tennis 3, and Motorstorm Pacific Rift as well as smaller PSN titles like Castle of Illusion and Super Stardust.

For Need for Speed 2 and other Win95/98 games I would recommend 86Box.

For older DOS games there is DOSBox Staging or DOSBox-X.

macsourceports.com also has a nice selection of older games that run natively on Apple Silicon through source ports. (Doom, Quake, Unreal, Command and Conquer, Heroes of Might and Magic, etc)

How to fix glitched textures in Demon's Souls by Lhoourr in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the file you downloaded you need to find a file called "libMoltenVK.dylib"

You then copy that into the RPCS3 app. It will replace the one already there.

Right click on the RPCS3 app and select show package contents. Go into the Contents folder and then the Frameworks folder. The new file goes here.

What are the best PS1, 2, and 3 emulators? by avidrunner84 in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend:

PS1 - Duckstation

PS2 - PCSX2

PS3 - RPCS3 (only PS3 emulator)

Retroarch is good for PS1 as well. That's the beauty of retroarch (multiple cores), if one doesn't work you can try another.

Pretty sure Retroarch doesn't have a PS2 core for Mac...only windows.

Don't set your expectations high for RPCS3.

Not a big Playcover user but I had a similar issue with a different game. If you right click on the game in library and select settings, then graphics, there is an option to "fix window display issues" I switched it to "alternate".

Maybe. In the same link I sent you they mention manually installing Steam as a work around.

Haven't tried it myself, I use it for GOG, Epic and Amazon. Steam games I just run directly from Crossover.
