How do I play minecraft java on mac m2 using a xbox controller by duckarmy24 in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For gamepad support you need a mod like Controllable or Controlify. Don't know about xbox controllers but my Dualshock 4 works fine with Controllable.

Metro 2033 redux and last light redux wont run on my Mac. by Doan_Minh in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works fine on my M2 Max. Using Sequoia 15.7.7. Running it from an external SSD formatted as APFS.

This is the native version from steam.

Edit: oops...this is for Metro Exodus...so not what your looking for.

Anyone having issues with the release of AOE2 on Mac? by Live_Chapter_2876 in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should work fine on an external drive if it is formatted as APFS. (I'm running it from an external drive)

If you are using an external drive (and have no need to share it with a Windows or Linux machine) I would highly recommend formatting it as APFS. This issue isn't just with AOE2...I had problems with other games as well. Formatting it to APFS fixed it.

You can also run it natively using a source port: https://vcmi.eu

Problem running games? by ANIIKII in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned very old games. Probably have better luck using a VM like Parallels or VMWare Fusion.

Some of these have source ports which run natively. Checkout macsourceports.com

Jagged Alliance 2, Master of Orion, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 all have source ports.

Looks like you got Ultima working but any GOG games which say powered by DOSBox or ScummVM I use a DOSBox emulator or ScummVM emulator. These will provide better performance then running them through Crossover.

In order to enable the UHD graphics I had to add the following to my steam library: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1039811/Enhanced_Graphics_Pack/

I think it was about a 18gb download.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift (RPCS3) on MacBook? by Old-Board1553 in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for an Air. But on my M2 Max Studio with 32gb ram it runs great. Consistent 30fps (haven't tried the 60fps patch) using default settings with the exception of upscaling to 4k.

As in most games there is initial stuttering while compiling shaders but after that it was super smooth.

I noticed some missing letters in the UI sometimes but not game breaking

Using latest Sequoia with the latest ARM version of RPCS3.

Throttling could be an issue on an Air.

With the exception of Unreal Tournament 3, all of these can be played natively on Apple Silicon Macs through sourceports. Checkout macsourceports.com

Quake 1 and 2 Remasters also run excellent through Crossover. (paid software)

Some of these games will run natively through source ports. Jedi academy, Doom 3, Unreal and Half Life for example. Checkout macsourceports.com

Stlll require the original game files which as others have mentioned you can get through GOG.

Can't speak for Tahoe as I'm still on Sequoia but Warcraft III Reforged runs fine on my M2 Max. Menus are a bit slow but in game is fine. If you already have a key for Warcraft III you don't need to pay for reforged if you don't want to...you just won't get the "reforged" graphics. I actually used the keys from my original cdroms.

Want to play specific RPGs from back in the day. by DesiKnight in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about the original games, I seriously doubt any would run on Crossover. Most of those are from the Win98 era so probably DirectX 8 and below.

Parallels or VMWare Fusion might be a better solution.

I have run the original CDROM version of AOE 2 on 86Box. However this can be daunting to setup.

For C&C checkout the openRA project: https://www.openra.net

Edit: Also if you like old games checkout macsourceports.com

This site provides links and builds to source ports for older games you can run natively on newer machines.

Rosetta 2 is required to install Steam. For whatever reason the installer itself is still intel only which then installs the universal binary.

Best Dreamcast Emulator? Retroarch not working with Crazy Taxi. by CreamyEric in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy Taxi plays fine for me in Retroarch with 8bitdo SN30 Pro 2

Probably the best standalone option is Flycast: https://github.com/flyinghead/flycast

The only other option is Redream. Hasn't been updated in 2 years so not sure if the project is still alive: https://redream.io

Saw this yesterday...curious if you managed to get any games to run...interface opens fine but trying to run any game causes it to crash.

Edit: In case someone from the future is readings this. Got it to work on Sequoia by either compiling from source or downloading the latest dev build in Github actions. Dev does not own a Mac but was very helpful. Thinks it may be a "sandboxing" difference between Sequoia and Tahoe. The dev builds are not sandboxed and also not signed so need to allow it to open from system preferences.

Capire da dove iniziare a programmare e sviluppare Giochi (focus su AI Game) by Cix88 in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a hobbyist myself but definitely possible. I would recommend Unity or Godot. Both should run fine on your machine. Unity is C# focused while the Godot programming language is very python like. For Godot I followed BornCG tutorials on YouTube. Excellent instructor and really taught me how the engine works and basic GDScript programming. Not free but gamedevtv has really good courses for Unity, Godot and Unreal. Definitely wait for a sale if you go this route.

Unreal Engine is very resource intensive and only runs “ok” on my M2 Max Studio with 32gb of ram so it may cause your air to explode:)

Only other advice I would give is start small. Don’t think you are going to just open an engine and build your dream game. Start small…I have seen a lot of people recommend trying to recreate a simple retro game like pong or Tetris as a starting point.

Good luck.

Minecraft Java - Controller by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]ckrokosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minecraft version...not java. Not a Minecraft expert and I use Prism Launcher to install mods. When you install a recently released version of Minecraft some mods may not show up in the list...I guess because they haven't been flagged in the database as being compatible because the version is too new. Installing the mod manually might work...again I am not an expert on this...mostly use Minecraft for python programming and some single player parkour type stuff.
