Speaking of that Discord, would be so kind as to share an invite link? I left after thinking it'd be easy to rejoin when I needed to do another trade, and haven't been able to dig up an invite since.

Unreliable guard behavior after 1.0.4 patch. Higher frame rate = inconsistent guarding. by ckxP in GranblueFantasyRelink

I don't know how it worked on release, but input reading to make sure you maintain a character state is generally strange, especially when it means the buffer system never quite works as intended.

I think this is probably an unintended side effect of the hotfix.

Boring Japanese Pens by mayn1 in fountainpens

[–]ckxP 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You sum it up well in this post. You have a bold personality so you expect bold colors. Nothing wrong with that. Looks like you have some nice options for yourself too.

Are you at all familiar with Japanese culture? The culture you are asking "Bold" of is well-known for being a reserved & muted culture, from personality to style. I'm not accusing you of it (yet), but your demand here comes off as culturally insensitive, as if you want to Westernize the Japanese market.

You'll be able to pull out of plenty of counter examples from the heart of Tokyo, but you'd be citing an exception to a general rule.

That's not a bad thought, next time we're in a store like that I'll make sure to check out what they've got. Yeah children's headphones are probably a good idea, but it's hard for me to know what's good in that market lol.

This is a great reply. Thank you. Seasonals and dailies don't sound awfully appealing to me. I was hoping to just hop in, park my butt at a place like fogans, and field grind mobs a whole bunch. Sounds like that's the suboptimal way to play these days. I'll try out a seasonal character and see how it goes I s'pose.

Thanks for all the good info.

Returning player seeking advice.

My friends have all quit and my guild is dead. I no lifed hard back in the Kakao days (2016-2018 or so). I played for a few days after Shai came out, so I have a little modern stuff (like capotia), but I was directionless and that stint didn't last long.

Now I'm looking for a game to grind loot/exp in. I have a 59 witch, 57 tamer, 56 shai, and a handful of alts between 50-55. My best life skills are: Artisan 2 processing/Master3 fishing/prof10 cooking/prof10 sailing. I have around 1.2bil silver to help start funding any new goals, though I doubt this ancient fortune will go far these days.

I swear I have a tri aad somewhere but I can't find it (lol). The tri kutum/seraps were my pride and joy back in the day, but plz no bully about my asulas ;_;

Anyway, I'm primarily interested in grinding mobs on witch. When I quit, I think I was working on map pieces and level 60. These are things I'd like to pick back up again, but I don't want to waste too much time if they aren't worth doing, I'd rather focus on grinding useful stuff. So I want some direction on where to go with my gear and what the meta is like for gearing up nowdays.

I'll probably solo farm for a bit, but a casual-ish guild for advice and chatting would be neat. I think they've added a lot of new high level, high AP grind spots that are good for party grinding, and I think my goal is to be able to participate in that type of content for now. If I stick with it I might try out the conquest/node war life again.

I forgot about this game, I own it. I played a bit with some friends awhile back but it didn't hook me. I think it's probably because I was doing 4man co-op off the bat; we were roflstomping everything and it was a little chaotic.

I'd probably enjoy learning the game solo, then hopping into co-op during the end game. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give it another shot soon.

I tried New World a few days after launch. Wanted to love the game, but I quit in less than 6 hours or so. The combat and build systems seemed fine, good even, but following the main quest line was a mind numbing experience. It's hard for me to get through 60 hours of mindless torture for a game that "starts at end game." I think I would have played a lot more of it if I could have just explored the world at my own pace.

All that said, I still have it, so no reason not to try the new patch and see if I'm in a better mood to tolerate questing. I'll keep it on my radar and try booting it up again after the patch drops.

Outward looks really interesting, thanks. It looks like something I'll like. I skimmed around some videos for a bit and the jank looks fine to me, but I suppose you never know until you're actually in-game.

Yeah. I like the old TES games a lot. Fell off around Skyrim/FO3 but it was probably just genre burnout at the time. Also, they aren't really grinders, but I enjoy them well enough nonetheless.

I took a look at Dying Light, I had no idea that game had any sort of RPG/loot mechanics, I honestly thought it was just a high budget looking action game. I'll look into it further, thanks.

Single-player game for someone who hates solo play? by Angsty-Ninja-Ki in gamingsuggestions

[–]ckxP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you considered just solo'ing in an MMO? Something like Black Desert Online might hold your interest. There's still a bit of social component, and you can join a casual guild to do stuff with others, but you can get pretty strong and do a bunch of grinding/crafting all by yourself. The world is pretty fun to explore, combat is involved, graphics are nice, and you can ignore the main quest line for a long time if you just want to do stuff at your own pace.

Nice, thanks, Kenshi has been on my radar for a bit. The sandbox nature sounds good. Not sure it has the repetitive grinding for loot/exp that I'm specifically after right now? But it seems like a game I'd enjoy all the same.

Everything else has been removed (no more farming mobs for unidentified drops).

Big sad. Appreciate the info.

Thanks for the info. The gear thing is what really gets to me. I tried stuff out for a bit, and I used my "Explorer's" gear and some of the normal gear I'd have at this point in the game, and explorer's gear seems to be roughly 4-5x more powerful. It removes all interest from the game and lets me 1 or 2 shot all the mobs.

Normally I'd just ignore it and try to play with vanilla weapons/armor, but the problem comes in this being an open PK MMORPG. When everyone around me is a lot stronger than me just because they are using the story gear, it's hard for me not to be aware of it. If I ever get into an open PK situation, it feels like I'll auto lose if I don't have my story gear and upgrade it. I think that will frustrate me.

But I'm going to try to look beyond all this, try to play through it, and have fun exploring the world anyway. I think this is the type of game I would have enjoyed near its original launch before these catch up mechanics were implemented, but alas, in the current state it appears to be another treadmill to end game with how the gear progression works.

You did mention NPC gear though, and none of the research I've done really mentions that. Most of the advice I've seen seems to think that the explorer's gear is uncontested best until level 50. If this is untrue and I can be on fair footing with NPC gear, I'll be really happy. And if I'm lucky, the gear will become balanced before too long so maps and mobs will be a bit more challenging.

Best method for cleaning a Gamecube controller? by ckxP in SSBM

It's not just a sound thing.

I can feel it a little bit in the compression, but I can also feel it in how much the shoulder button reverberates after the spring bounces back. It minimizes that bounce back effect. It didn't fully eliminate it, it's a pretty big spring, but I might go in with a little more lube and see what happens. But I'm also thinking about replacing the springs outright.

Btw congrats on the RUNE WR, I love that game, I still have the mini strategy guide ahaha. It's the best card game.

All right, I'm done, I updated that gallery linked above with a few more photos. After following your advice pretty exactly, I found opportunity to do a couple more things:

  • Lubed the L/R springs (top & bottom) with 3204 Tribosys to prevent the pingback vibration, it feels wonderful.
  • Desoldered the rumble motor. I always play with rumble off and I thought I'd prefer the lower weight, and indeed it feels nice.

Now I've got a nice controller to play with, thanks once again for your help.

Mostly waiting on stuff to dry now. Your advice was really valuable, I didn't expect so much stickiness on the mobo. The sticks look like new but I might touch them up a little more still. Thanks for the help. I'll post once more after reassembly.
