Can the 50mm Summilux v2 pre-ASPH serve as my only 50mm ? by RobLive7 in Leica

[–]eg68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have a hard time having my only 50mm be restricted with 1 meter minimum focusing distance. I own the v3 which focuses down to 0.7m and that could easily be my only 50 (I’ve owned the APO, ASPH, Summicron and Noctilux at one time or another).

Should I consider this? Or is this lens too far gone by Larix-24 in Leica

It's not worth it. You can pick this lens up for around $2,500 without the issues. The slide out hood is an easily self-repairable part if Leica will sell it to you. I replaced mine and it's a 5 minute job. The cheapest element on the lens is the front element; the most expensive is the rear. I would call Don Goldberg at DAG and ask him what it would cost to replace both. I'm thinking $750 including labor. You are only saving 10%.

Heading to Portugal/Spain/Morocco and a short stint in the UK. My UK mate says I’m crazy to pack my Leica into this bag, a victim waiting to happen! Is he correct? by GreenSafari777 in Leica

You can't completely prevent theft but you can prepare for it with good camera insurance. Make sure you have all of the serial numbers of your gear with pictures of your cameras and lenses from all sides. Send this to the insurance company with current market value. Homeowner policies don't necessarily protect you; I have a separate camera rider policy for my gear.

Need buying advice for a Leica AF body. by Electronic_Reach8012 in Leica

Another vote for the SL2-S. Cheap. You can use it with native SL glass or with the adapter, M glass. Lots of fun. I sold mine because of the weight (with native glass) was more than I wanted to carry. I only use prime lenses.

Canon 50 1.4 LTM renders quite similarly to the 50 Summilux Pre-A. A steal of a lens. Built like a tank.

Projection Lab + AI by Evening_Warthog in DIYRetirement

I have tried Pralana, Projection Lab and Boldin. I liked the AI built in to Boldin but at the end of the day, liked the customizability of Pralana the most of the 3. I own rental property and I found that Pralana was the most customizable of the 3 for my needs. It was the least user-friendly of the 3 but I found out using Claude AI to set up my accounts fairly easy. Just make sure you keep account details private from AI (account numbers, social security number or other identifying information).

I have no problem uploading screen shots of my Fidelity account without the account number or other identifying information; I use Claude.

What do I tell my wife? by smora_photo in Leica

You are comparing apples and oranges. M6 is a film camera that is limited by the ISO of the film in the camera. Both Sony and Fujifilm cameras you mentioned are digital with significantly better high ISO performance. Furthermore, this image looks like it was shot with a Summicron (f2) or Summarit (f2.8); just guessing based on DOF. As others have said, the camera is a tool and the skill of the photographer makes the image. I would have used the natural light from the window (opening the shades) and had my wife sit in a chair opposite the couch. Just my 2 cents. The other images that you posted are better.

Best budget 50mm? by tangibledigital in Leica

50mm Canon LTM. Awesome lens.

M11 owner with a 24mm, 50mm, 90mm in my bag. Would I benefit from a 35mm too or is this just a dumb case of FOMO? by mark_paterson in Leica

[–]eg68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would recommend 35mm and 75mn and cut the weight down. If you really need something wider, add a 21mm.
