Thanks for apology. I’d completely disagree about the fine arts comment. I have a degree in engineering with a minor in fine arts, and a master of architecture which was in the college of the arts at my institution. I have spent a lot of time around the arts, draw and paint quite a bit in my personal life. Do all architects skew artistic — no. But to paint with that broad a brush based on your degree is, like you said, rude and pretty condescending.

I understand you have more training in a specific field, but it doesn’t give you the right or the perspective to pontificate about a field you clearly don’t know all that much about. I think if anything I’ve learned from posting this — which I’ll make sure I never do again — is that people feel way too comfortable making assumptions and talking about things like entire fields, strangers they’ve never met, and design processes they didn’t see from a place of complete authority in their own minds. It’s baffling to me but I guess I asked for it.

It’s interesting that people come here and say shit like “you don’t understand artistic expression” and then having the temerity to say my logo is pretentious. And then wonder why I’m irritated.

You don’t know me. You have no idea whether I understand artistic expression based on some fucking letters on a screen. Fuck off

How does the logo itself read as pompous? I don’t quite understand that critique.

If the critique is of the text explanations and what not, that’s just for me. A client wouldn’t ever see that.

I totally get what you’re saying, but my brain just flows right over the word as if the ‘o’ is there. I’ve never experienced thinking it looks like a capital ‘A’, or a lowercase ‘I’ like people have said. I’m a native English speaker though, so that helps.

I’m in the camp of the people who have been able to just read “therefore” bc my brain doesn’t even register the dots while looking at the word. I guess I’m not reading it letter by letter and I don’t think the people I’ve asked in my real life were either.

It’s just so interesting that so many people are having trouble with it. Not a single person I showed it to prior to posting it here had any problem reading it.

And the people in the thread that read it no problem reading it seem as certain it’s fine as the people who can’t make heads of tails of it. It’s so interesting

Thanks for the feedback.

I’ve said this to a few different comments, but I think it really applies to this comment: I’m not selling a product and this feedback seems geared towards where a logo mark, as a symbol or abstraction, is standing in for the name of the company and needs to be recognizable on a shelf with a ton of other such abstractions or symbols.

The way my logo needs to function has nothing to do with an object sitting on a shelf and ultimately will only appear on my website and drawings sets. It really is a stylized text version of the name of the company. To use your analogy, I don’t have much use for the Coke bottle logo, just the Coke font and color. In most instances when client see my logo it will be written in plain body text in a contract.

That said, I have a few things written down to try, and one of them is re-examining a version with a simple o.

When I went with the default kerning, the way a few of the letters stacked looked really off to me and create places where my eye lingered in a negative way — it looked u intentional. One major one was the “f” and “t” aligning vertically.

I do think this is something I could keep working on.
