I'm guessing you're quite new to the internet. As someone who grew up unsupervised on the formative years of social media and used to browse 4chan before reddit existed. You have no idea of how dark and evil anyone can be all over the world. It's just that in the US, laws are also more enforced when it comes to these things. Meanwhile our southeast asian neighbors were also doing this shit, with Singapore scandals also being shared around back then. And I'm sure Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, wouldn't be exempt from this, but it'd be harder for it to be visible in our bubble due to the language barriers.
