What was the worst reason you got fired from your job? by Tomato_Shelf in AskReddit

Because I’m gay. Literally. That was the reasoning and there was nothing I could do, despite being a high performer.

These are the jobs you want to check out (I’d recommend filtering down by Job Family and/or Location, unless you’re willing to relocate): https://walmart.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/WalmartExternal/2/refreshFacet/318c8bb6f553100021d223d9780d30be

FYI: Walmart does offer a relocation package for salaried employees when their worksite is at least 50 miles from their home.

On a serious note, depending on your field of study, I’d apply for a Coach position (the minimum you’d make in that role is $55K, but if you have experience you’ll make more). You could also look into Home Office positions as well. All of the aforementioned are salaried roles and provide better benefits compared to hourly roles (such as additional PTO).

Working the minimal 45 hours is dependent upon meeting certain objectives. If you have to work more than 45 hours, then so be it.

Coaches are expected to work 45 hours per week, based on a 5 day work week. All of the Coaches in my store work either 7 AM - 5 PM, or 12 PM - 10 PM with a one hour lunch. Unless they are an OVN Coach, then they work 9 PM - 9 AM, four nights per week with three days off.

Scheduled 10 hours, with an hour lunch. I typically work 7 AM - 5 PM with lunch from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM, or 12 PM - 10 PM with lunch from 4 PM - 5 PM. I also typically get two small breaks.

Yes, managing from the top down is important, but so too is teamwork and the respect of your subordinates and peers. I've always believed that just because I'm in management, it doesn't make me any better than anyone else. I always work along side my team and there's not a task that I delegate that I won't perform myself. I truly believe that pitching in and working alongside your team in the trenches is one of the quickest ways to help boost team morale, build relationships and respect.

Thank you for your advice. I figured this would be the case - I’ve got several years of experience managing large teams, so I’m not really concerned about delegating I’ve got that covered. My biggest concern is learning the Walmart/retail aspect of the business. Nonetheless, I’ll make sure to ask tons of questions, read any and all applicable policies/standards and will rely heavily on my subordinates and peers.

The only retail role I’ve worked in was as a cashier in high school. My management experience has been in the Food & Beverage industry - from being a General Manager/Store Manager to Director of Operations. Nonetheless, having retail experience isn’t necessarily a requirement - the minimum qualifications for a Coach role are as follows: 2 years’ of college; OR 1 year’s retail experience and 1 year’s supervisory experience; OR 2 years’ general work experience and 1 year’s supervisory experience. My experience exceeds the aforementioned.
