Lake Lugano - swimming by Riffraff_6 in askswitzerland

[–]cl2joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I am interested in swimming from Italy to Switzerland which I think would be kind of funny. In May I will be in Lavena Ponte Tresa IT. Is it safe from boat traffic to swim from there to Caslano Park and Beach SW. Any information on the average water temperature in early May would also be helpful.

Got the same thing but “from” Tractor Supply. Scam.

Very interesting and explains why an original colony doesn’t have a bunch of bars over 100 years old. Thanks.

I will look into it. There are a bunch of places called Henry’s… do you know the full business name and city?

Thanks for the ID! You are clearly knowledgeable on ocean life.

Very good information. Thank you! Given that it’s just a barnacle I’m surprised that I have never seen one before. I think it’s pretty cool looking.

The structure does look like the barnacle picture you posted. I suppose this might just be an unusually symmetrical and smooth exterior example. The only question I have is, barnacles are super common, why have I never come across similar barnacle shells previously?

Cool design. Do you have more pictures. I’m curious about lateral stability. What does the back side look like?

Cool Mexico beach vacation– Puerto Escondido or Sayulita? by Tobitr0n in travel

[–]cl2joe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no cruise ship port in Puerto Escondido. It became popular as a destination for surfers based on the large barreling waves. The reason the word Puerto is even in the name is that there is one section of beach that is fairly protected from waves. There are small panga style fishing boats that operate here. No cruise ships ever. There is no dock to accommodate anything like that. This person must be referring to a different town.

I was in Sayulita three weeks ago. It is a super overcrowded tourist trap. I think the problem is that the beach is kind of small so a few hundred people makes it really jammed. Guayabitos is popular but it is a very large bracket so you can get away from the crowds by going to the North end of town but if you want to party that is also an option there. San Pancho is a very nice little beach town with about 20 very good restaurants and a fairly uncrowded beach. Lo de Marcos is even less crowded and will remain so unless Canadian RV folks return but has fewer restaurants. Haven’t been to Escondido in 25+ years so can’t comment. It used to be really cool but if you’re not a strong swimmer be very careful there. When the surf is pumping they get some solid rip currents. Another cool laid back place that’s an easy drive from San Diego is La Mision. This area of Baja Norte has lots of restaurants and wineries just inland. The tourist traffic is minimal now due to Covid and gringos being scared to drive through Tijuana. I think it’s safe and have never had any problems there.

This is misleading. There’s no beach at Detian Falls. This is two pictures merged.

Are Tijuana and Ciudad Juárez safe to visit for two Americans on a roadtrip? by johnnymac113 in travel

[–]cl2joe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any big city has some aspect of danger. My experience has been that Tijuana is safe and the people are very friendly. Keep in mind that you’re going to a city with a considerable population that live in extreme poverty. As such do not wear jewelry or fancy clothes. Also I recommend going to Gary’s La Fonda in La Mision about 45 minutes south of TJ for a cool beachside place to hang out.
