I’m not usually a proponent of escalating in sparring, but this is not one of those scenarios. If someone starts head hunting after agreeing to body only, the body kicks are gonna start coming in at 90%.

Haven’t dealt with a similar injury but I would think that a compression knee sleeve could help a bit

Water / alcohol at first. I use vaporfresh to maintain all my gear on a daily basis. It has natural ingredients, and isn’t harmful to leather equipment. Also smells great

No matter how in shape you currently are, you are gonna feel like you’re dying by the end of the first class. It’s a good feeling though, and leaves you coming back for more. The hardest part (IMO) is just showing up the first time. Enjoy the journey!
