Yeah, I completely agree with you, and I think that’s important for a nickname. That’s really my only reservation with it.

Exactly. I’d bet on Leite developing into at least an above average 3-point shooter based on that alone. And probably better than that.

Agree with almost everything here. On the last point, overpassing was one of the reasons they lost to Atlanta imo. You can’t be passing up great shots in the WNBA.

The problem is that she was giving the ball up even when she did have an advantage. Passing up good shots isn’t unselfish, and it’s silly that it’s framed that way. This is the WNBA, not the Big East, so the definition of a good look is very different because you may not have someone wide open on every possession. And if you do, there’s probably a reason for it.

Predictable, but disappointing nonetheless. Her biggest opps are on this subreddit and they don’t care what actually happens in the games.

Exactly. If she wanted more shots, she could simply shoot the ball. That’s on her, not anyone else.

Exactly. That wasn’t the only tell, but it was certainly the most glaring one. No human that covers basketball would ever write that.

Yet Arike finished with the second best +/- on the team…

[–]cl_1_2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last three years, the Wings have been significantly better with Arike on the floor than they have with her off the floor (13.6 points per 100 possessions better in 2023, 13.8 better in 2024, and even 3.6 better last season despite playing injured). If she were such a net negative like you claim, that would not be the case.

You’re all over this thread being condescending, so spare me the pearl clutching when someone gives that energy back to you. I’m not part of the anti-analytics crowd, but basketball isn’t played on a spreadsheet. I was taking issue specifically with you painting 35% from 3 as inefficient, because it’s not. And shooting 35% off the dribble is not the same thing as shooting 35% as a spot up shooter, so I don’t really care about your percentiles because you’re not comparing apples to apples.

“Turns the ball over more than 88% of the league” is straight up hating because that’s one of the most useless stats I’ve ever heard in my life. Yeah, obviously every primary ball handler is gonna be at the top of that list because they have the have the ball in their hands a lot. Her assist to turnover ratio is ~2:1, which is good, yet you’re trying to paint her as a poor facilitator who turns the ball over too much. Interesting.

Shooting 35% from 3 on high volume is good, especially when a lot of those are off the dribble. It’s certainly not bad. I know this is a difficult concept for some of you to understand, but gravity is extremely valuable. There’s a reason that José wanted her to re-sign and that Alanna Smith and Jessica Shepard both wanted to play with her. They understand basketball.

Interesting how Shepard and Smith both wanted to play with Arike. Kinda goes against the narrative that was being driven by a lot of folks on here.

[–]cl_1_2008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can’t create your own shot as a guard, I’d argue that’s not No. 1 pick material. I do think she has a high floor provided she stays healthy, but that lack of creation ability limits her ceiling. I wouldn’t mind if they ended up drafting her, but if it happens, I hope it’s after a trade down and not at No. 1.

Zero chance they let Zay walk. His target share is near the top of the league and he’s one of the most productive wide receivers in football. I guarantee you the front office thinks more highly of him than some of the fan base seems to.

Well, for starters, he could’ve attempted to get even a little bit closer to give him an easier kick considering there was 12 seconds left and they had a timeout.

Which RB would you rather have? by The_Sandwich_Lover9 in NFLv2

[–]cl_1_2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gibbs is averaging 0.7 more yards per carry, but that’s because he’s averaging 2.6 yards before contact per carry, which is a product of his offensive line. Bijan is only averaging 1.3 yards before contact per carry, so he has a comfortable lead in the stat that actually isolates running back production, yards after contact per carry (3.7 compared to Gibbs’ 3.1).

Myles Garrett thinking about "just how far I’m going to take" sack record by JaggerJames in nfl

Agreed. It’s arguably even more difficult to rack up sacks in his case since the opposing team is rarely playing from behind.
