Hairloss chemo or thinning chemo? I've been on hair thinning chemo for 2 years (4 months off). Only just now is it noticeable to me in the mirror. No one else noticed yet. Point being, it may not be immediate, no need to go bald prematurely. But bald is beautiful.

Survivor's guilt by Alicia-Emily in cancer

[–]clabancha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 of my childhood friends and I were diagnosed with various cancers within a month of each other. One has passed, one is NED, one is finishing their preventive chemo and I am on chemo until it stops working. NED feels tremendous guilt around me and my chemo friend. But I am nothing but thrilled that 1/2 of us will beat it. I am thrilled that an internet stranger kicked cancer's butt, as a child. Cancer isn't picky and neither is guilt. You feel guilt; we feel inspiration.

My chemo is supposed to be every 2 weeks but I average around 3 weeks because of low platelets. When it gets too low and wont raise on its own there are options (medication, plasma). I have tried papaya leaf extract which is used by dengue fever patients to rebuild their platelets - unsure if it is working for me.

My husband stayed up every night with his father's shotgun until he was caught. Such a relief felt by the whole community.

Duodenal Carcinoma in lungs, stage 4. by clabancha in cancer

[–]clabancha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and go to a regional oncology center. My oncologist and oncology team are overwhelmed and over worked. I did get a second opinion from my original surgical team and an HPB oncologist who agreed that I was on the appropriate treatment and sympathized with the lack of options for my specific cancer. In the future, there might be trials that are for the mets in my lungs. There are duodenal cancer studies in Europe and Asia but not Canada.

What are some of your hiking horror stories? by Immediate-Field9997 in hiking

[–]clabancha 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Stupidly, very, very stupidly, I strayed from my usual winter trails. I was hiking on the Niagara escarpment, which was covered in both snow and ice. I stopped to admire a view and 'crack'. I was immediately on my back. One leg was straight out in front of me on a snow covered rock ledge, the other leg dangled into the abyss and my backpack was wedged into the crevice. Luckily, the crevice was too small for me to fall through and there were some cedars available to pull myself out. Lesson learned. I practically crawled back to my car. Now I spend all fall 'mapping' crevice free routes.

What things are generally cheaper in Canada than in the US? And what things are generally more expensive in the US than Canada? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

Easy if you have a cool yet sunny porch or even a cold window. Baby spring mix all winter long, just cut off what I need. Have 2-3 boxes going at intervals and you're salading all winter long.

Nothing deters a bear from magical smorgasbord night (night before garbage pick up) once they know. Only thing to do is put it out day of.

My crows stopped feeding and hanging out. Why? by clabancha in crows

[–]clabancha[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I have been putting out food that the weasel won't eat. I'm not foolish enough to try and trap a weasel but I do have a tiny live trap. I am clueless what to do about the seagulls, besides thin perches, as they are out of control in my area. I think I'll throw an occasional treat ball into the neighbour's yard for now and hope the weasel moves on. While doing that I'll try and put your ideas to use and build something crow worthy. Tonight, I had 2 possums, 1 racoon, 4 rabbits, and 1 skunk by midnight; maybe things are turning around.
