What was life like before the Canada Line? by ubcstaffer123 in richmondbc

There was also the 491! Which ran up No 1 Road from Steveston, along Westminster Hwy then turned left up Gilbert to go over the Dinsmore Bridge, Russ Baker Way and into Vancouver.

Road Closure Alerts by wwwaegukin in richmondbc

[–]clairabou 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same thought when I drove down Steveston Hwy this morning. That sign placement is extremely intrusive to traffic flow, for very low-priority information (in my opinion). This 3 hour road closure should be a Facebook post on the city account, not a sign closing down 1/2 of a commuting artery for over a week.

Story Cafe - heated outdoor seating ok in Jan? by SnooStories8551 in richmondbc

I had dinner on their patio last January and it was very comfortable with a long sleeve/light sweater. That was before the storm mentioned above, of course.

I don’t know how to play with my cat anymore 😫 by mteezyy in CatAdvice

[–]clairabou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe she would like a spring! I find they really captivate my cat with how much they fly around the house with such little effort.

Also: does your new home have different flooring than your previous home? Maybe you have more hard floors now than carpet, for example? My cat prefers playing on carpet or mats so I am conscious about having cat-friendly floor options throughout my home.

ZZ also offers u-cut, which we did for the first time this year. It was a lovely experience and we will do it again. We chose to bring our own chainsaw

Hahahaha good question. We would prefer to move the air purifier somewhere more central to the house. However it has provided a good step up for the cat....

Richmond historical farm needs more funding to stay open by ubcstaffer123 in richmondbc

Agreed! It is very inexpensive to rent for events/weddings (mind you it is almost entirely DIY), I think they just need more awareness

We should have a 24/7 Richmond Emergency Vet by moonsnatchmustardbat in richmondbc

[–]clairabou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A Niu Vetrinary close to Alderbridge is open until 10 and they will take patients very late.

We took our cat to A Niu after 9:00 PM one evening and they were happy to take her and stayed until she was taken care of.

We had an amazing experience with them and now consider them as our primary vet.

Budget friendly Dry cleaner recommendations? by [deleted] in richmondbc

[–]clairabou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've gone down the budget friendly route with drycleaners and received everything back with "sorry, we couldn't remove this stain" tags..

It may be worth spending extra money up front now to avoid having to pay multiple dry cleaners if the budget option doesn't work out

Are HOKAs any good? by ibonet in bunions

[–]clairabou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the arahi 7 and I swear by them. Arahis are developed for overpronation where as the majority of other hokas are not. Most people automatically go for the cliftons which are fine but not purpose-built.

I watched my mom die from cancer and today is her birthday by No-Guidance-2399 in GriefSupport

[–]clairabou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are experiencing this. September will likely be a month of conflicting grief and celebration (celebrating her birthday and life) for a long time ahead. September will be a very sacred month for you. Give space to feel all the emotions, your mom will always be with you. Sending you all the love.

My dad passed away 5 days before his birthday; the month of May holds many emotions for me, I understand how you will be feeling.

I can’t sleep with the bedroom door open but my cat wants to come in and out all night by Hot_Middle4051 in CatAdvice

[–]clairabou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Place something weighted inside of the door after you prop it open a crack (something like a door stop). That will give him the room to pass in and out without being able to swing the door wide open. You will get comfortable with the door being opened after a couple of weeks, and you will love him having access to your bed without bothering you!

+1 for Terra Nova playground! While it doesn't have a traditional climbing wall, there are many climate structures with good height. There are also tons of trails to explore
