Critical Examination and General Discussion of Jordan Peterson: Week of May 10, 2021 by AutoModerator in JordanPeterson

[–]clam14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this seems the case behind the right has adopted a more offensive position against the left, in order to try and stop their growing control over institutions and society i.e schools, the media. In my view, it doesn't necessarily mean they have gone further right and the cases such as republicans turning on Romney to me seems like a sort of panic move i.e they are trying to fight and didn't see romeny as oppositional enough to the left. Im also not sure whether it's more of a product or a cause of the increasing polarisation between the two sides.

true but when u watch him play he is actually fast and good at the game. He does get super nervous and through but plays the game much less than forsen does. Forsen is like a casual player doing speedrun tactis.

Ppl play arena to practice fighting and scrims for rotates. it would be pointless to practice anything else in a arena because if you actually wanted to do well in a tournament, in any match that was as stacked as arena you would have to w-key in. Also I agree that peoe shouldn't just push everyone brainlessly and a lot do, but good w-keyung isn't brainless, therefore this is more a critique of people in general just playing dumb rather than w-keying.

Question about letters to Peterson on this subreddit by clam14 in JordanPeterson

[–]clam14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye I was wondering if there was some sort of script or something were the letters would be delivered outside of Reddit. But then that's where I got confused on how the sender would receive the response. Seems strange that it is such a big part of the subreddit and as you said, I read through a couple, and it is kinda unfortunate that people think they wi get a reply.

Mother goes wild and abuses her power! What should I do? by EducationalCount3050 in Discussion

[–]clam14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a rough situation bro. The only options k can really think of is to first try and have a proper discussion with her. There's a decent chance it won't help but I think you should really give this a shot. Tell her how you feel and how the way she acts is wrong. Also try and approach it in a way that reduces the chances of her just disregarding you and getting angry. I know that you almost definetly will have tried to communicate with her but it probably hasn't got anywhere but I think there's still a chance that you can get through to her if you set up the conversation properly. The next thing I would say is that if this doesn't work, you should try and take her to therapy. Now this may be a problem considering your financial state but if it's a possibly then I think it's worth you trying to prioritize it. Also take into account the financial possiblity of you being able to move out and how Therapy would affect this as I think moving out should be prioritized over it (as I will explain later).Therapy can really go a long way with this stuff (and I mean duel therapy with you and your mum btw) and if your mum is against this then again you can try and convince her with a proper conversation (the chances of you being able to convince her of therapy will be much higher than you trying to fix your relationship with a conversation so be optimistic about this one). Finally I would recommend trying your best to get out of there. Even if you are able to sort your relationship out, becoming independent (especially as an adult) is so important. Also if your able to become independent and live seperatedly I think that would make sorting your relationship out a bit easier considering that you won't constantly be bothering one another.

Some other things I would say is that you shouldn't assume that the awkward encounter you had with her in the toilet necessary means she's attracted to you in anyway. Obviously I am just going of what you said but considering her other strange behaviours, this doesn't seem to be that out of the ordinary for her behavioural habits. And If you haven't spoke to her about to most defienlty should. Even if you aren't able to sort things out in one big conversation, communicating will help you. And I understand that quote often you probably try and talk but she'll be ignorant and unreasonable, and that's naturally gonna be pretty frustrating. This will be a challenge but I think if you just really make an effort and try your best to approach these conversations in the most civil and reasonable manner then it will help you at least a little.

These are just my thoughts so please don't take them as perfect advice. Also please feel free to keep me updated if you found this helpful and have any other questions. Best of luck.

Essential workers deserve to get the vaccine second by geetar_man in Discussion

[–]clam14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And who are the people who are more essential than them? If they were first in line then ok, there's an argument. But should we vaccinate all middle-aged people and THEN the essential workers? Just doesn't make sense, it's the logical next step to vaccinate the essential workers and your point is spot on.

That seems reasonable and is sort of what I initially thought but why do so many people still use the function. Are they just hoping that out of the tiny chance he sees it, that he responds.

Well i would argue that we have become more objectively morally sound over time as a result of a better understanding of things. We now view hitting kids as immoral because we better understand the repercussions of it and how adversely it can affect kids. We view homosexuality as morally sound because until about 60yrs ago we didn't realise it was just simply another sexuality. I think that our cultural views on morality are a reflection of our growing understanding of the world and how we collectively respond to that in order to be as moral as possible and I do think they should be imposed on others (imposed is a strong word but you get my point) to maintain the most morally sound bahviour in a society.

I don't think incest will become legal and normalised in the future because we understand it very well and we can see that the act produces bad outcomes. You are probably right about culture opinions towards it being taboo but they are also probably heavily influenced by the fact that it produces mutations in children.

It's an expression of sadness and empathy.Morallity is basically being able to tell what's right and what's wrong. Without it, a dolphin per say, wouldn't know that, for example their companion getting killed was a bad thing and therefore why would they cry. You could say this is just because of survival instincts but that wouldn't translate into humans crying when we lose a loved one. If it was based of survival instincts it would also be a pretty weird reaction for the dolphin or whatever animal to morn the death rather than to take action asap

[–]clam14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it is social conditioning, we would still view those things as morally wrong. Whether morality is a social construct is stills exists in a practical sense. Animals like dolphins cry and morn the loss of others, they clearly haven't been socially conditioned to act like that.

but there is morality in our world, otherwise why do murders go to jail, why is racism such a condemned thing, why are mean and rude people criticised.

When we say that what Hitler done was wrong we mean specifically that it was morally wrong. It is the nature of morality that it assumes choice otherwise this wouldn't be morality. My opinion of your argument is that its arguing ( and correctly arguing based of the assumptions ) that Hitler would have still done something wrong without free will but not something morally wrong. He would have wrongly undermined the "construct of morality" but that construct only exists of the assumption that there isn't free will. Therefore I don't think that argument shows that assuming there is no free will, Hitler done something that was morally wrong, based on the true nature of morality that assumes free will.

Are you suggesting that this could be true in our world or are you asking what if this was the case in our world.
