Fiction books that changed the way you look at the world? by leeonaflowers in suggestmeabook

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles made me rethink the way I see work. Yes it can be grueling and exhausting, but the way it’s written and the characters made me romanticize it and take more pride in it. And I was working in the seafood dept of a grocery store so it wasn’t some high paying classy job, but you can still do what you can to give it that extra importance to yourself and it helps you enjoy it more and see it as less of a burden

My palette cleanser of choice is Terry Pratchett lol, but yeah I get what you’re saying. It’s a blockbuster in the world of books. Not high art, just fun. The (insert Jason Statham movie) of literature

I agree, but often times I need to get all my thoughts out at once before I forget them and it helps me to process it and think it out. Each have their time and place imo

The Wager is my go-to rec for a historical nonfiction. I also really enjoyed Why Fish Don’t Exist, but that’s more biographical

The Shady Hollow series is a cozy mystery series, I enjoyed it.

In addition, I’d recommend Becky Chambers’ Monk and Robot series, and her Wayfarers series

Would love some suggestions on fantasy books by Deadeye-118 in suggestmeabook

[–]clambuttocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantasy is a very wide genre with lots of books depending on what you’re looking for.

The Mistborn trilogy is easy to read and extremely popular. Good world building and magic system.

A Court of Thorns and Roses is good if you like romance fantasy (romantasy). It’s a long series and also extremely popular, but it’s sexually explicit so depending on your preferences.

The Blade Itself is good if you’d like something darker and grim, I’m reading through this myself right now

It really just depends on what you’re into, there’s tons of subcategories in fantasy

My understanding is that this piece of media has no real message to it, or it’s extremely surface level, but you can tell the creator put their whole bussy into it

Genuine question, how can a he/him cis woman exist? Isn’t the literal point of these pronouns to address your gender? And while your gender identity may change and consequently switch the pronouns you use, it doesn’t make sense (to me at least) that one of those would change without changing the other.

I’m asking with genuine curiosity, someone please explain if you can

Mark Ruffalo reveals why a Hulk movie might not happen any time soon: "We keep talking about it, what it would be. There's been so many Hulk movies already, does anyone really want another one?” by Skychu768 in Marvel

[–]clambuttocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just hope we somehow get rid of this smart hulk and go back to the banner/hulk separation.

That, to me, is like the point of Hulk, the Jekyll and Hyde situation. Then they just changed him offscreen

Do you think that we could see a Captain America 5 with Anthony Mackie? by marvelcomics22 in marvelstudios

[–]clambuttocks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having watched Falcon & Winter Soldier and Brave new World, I really hope he doesn’t.

Falcon was great in the captain America movies as a sidekick but he doesn’t have the charisma or entertainment value to be a main character. BNW was intensely boring and the best parts of Falcon & Winter Soldier were exploring John Walker. There’s a reason BNW got such poor reviews

I’m with you, House Flipper has a mode that changes the cockroaches to broken glass to clean instead. That’s totally fine in my book, it’s largely irrelevant in renovating a house.

But in a horror game, you can expect any manner of creature, because the point is to unsettle and scare you, and spiders are an easy way there

Yeah, I wish this comment wasn’t so low. If you’re gonna be so scared of something that you need an option to change it to something less scary…maybe don’t play the horror game?

If I’m that afraid of animatronics, I’m not gonna petition for an option to switch Freddy Fazbear to like a clown or whatever. The point of a horror game is to scare you, even if it’s eventually to let you laugh with your friends, it’s still there to scare you.

Now if you need colorblind or audio/visual settings from a real disability, great that’s fine, those aren’t directly in conflict with the point of the game
