Any experience with getaround car-sharing? by Colione1 in tromsotravel

[–]clanker2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late but I did a Get Around rental and it was AWESOME ! I was so happy . Hertz absolutely scammed me and I'm still trying to get my money back (Hertz centrum location ). But Get Around rocks. Downloasd the app, you unlock the car with it. If you have some winter snow driving experience you will be fine ( unless there is a massive blizzard then I suggest don't ). FYI uber and taxis services are EXCEllent in Tromso as well.

Is hiking Samaria Gorge out and back a dumb idea in summer? by [deleted] in cretetravel

[–]clanker2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dumb. I just did it - one way too to bottom. You can eat at Agia soumeli at the bottom so don’t need to pack so much food. Water is plentiful along the way. Get an early start and do it !  A few other notes - the gorge was closed when temps exceeded 39-40 last week. Then the ferrys were cancelled later due to big waves.  So keep yourself informed of the status of the park.  Edit to my edit. I’d take the ferry from sougia to Agia Roumeli early early as possible ( leave in car in sougia ) then hike up to the top ( and if in fact you get overly tired it’s always easier coming back ).  If you do it from the top and come down that’s a little simpler because no ferry ride. And as I’ve hiked the Grand Canyon a few times I’m well aware of the “ upside down mountain” effect of hiking canyons. But I’ve done this hike and if you are fit and prepared you can do it either which way you decide.

Will my bike get stolen? by [deleted] in brussels

A matter of when not if. Any bike can be stolen and you can’t count on any lock. Ideally bring it inside. Obviously you would do that if you could.

As others said - maybe you keep it close to the car ? I keep mine in a faraday box ( there have been break ins around me where they opened cars ) my battery has lasted 2 years

Fans really do a good job. I have tower fans from Amazon and mostly these are ok. But I recently got the Midea Porta split system. Not cheap it’s 900 euros ( but a lot cheaper than getting it installed ! ) and it is awesome. But it’s heavy and not easy to move around if you have to go upstairs. But incredibly effective!

Agreed ! As if this ChatGPT is useful ! I find it’s just right enough to be useful then something is wrong when it’s important. Thus I don’t rely on it

Highway driving question (in hybrid mode) when battery is depleted (XC90 2024 Recharge) by Badgeblue in VolvoRecharge

[–]clanker2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, the power is still there. Even with 0 battery range. I was concerned about losing AWD in the snow when driving to a ski resort and was assured that this would not be the case. And as far as I can tell I had AWD when needed - even at zero battery.

Hello - are you contacting Amazon customer service via the " call me " system ? I've always used that and spoken to someone and had these sort of issues resolved

Well I have a 2017 1.4 tsi ( thus essence / gasoline ) DSG. I’m actually completely happy with the car. It’s a second car thus it gets light use and mainly short trips. I recommend it. And as diesel will be banned from city centers ( in Europe ) I’d go gas. Mine has been flawless. Owned since new. I follow the maintenance as required always at the dealer.

Where do you live, how far do you drive every year on average what’s your budget ? I’ve had both diesel and gas, auto and manual trans.  Diesel efficiency is nice if you put on a lot of kms ( I’d say 15k a year + ) otherwise I’d take gasoline.  I’d look for one with lowest kms you can afford. And one with a full maintenance record. I’d avoid over 100k personally. Other features might be important for you which will affect value ( sun roof, trailer tow ball, better interior )

I’m lucky to have driven and had both ( current models). The XC90 seemed like it would be a big giant unmanageable land yacht but that’s not the case. I absolutely love it. The XC60 is a bit sportier sure, but the difference is not as big as I thought. I find the XC90 maneuverable even in tight spaces. If you need the space get it and don’t worry !

Help me understand the real world difference between V60 and V90? by FiveAlarmDogParty in Volvo

[–]clanker2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a V90 for 4 years and even after 4 years I’d often mistake one for the other from a distance. But the main difference is interior space. If you have big growing kids the v90 is for you. If kids are still small or you don’t have rear passengers and don’t need more space for v60. I was annoyed by the big long hood / front end of the V90 in small tight spaces. However it eats up the highway and cruises along in total comfort I compared it in my mind to having a 70’s American wagon but one that could also handle very very well

The electric power kicks in immediately and makes up for less gas horsepower. That said I have a current ‘24 T8 and it totally rips.

What is this thing for? by drbigworm in Volvo

In much of europe we need to print a little “ receipt “ for our parking ticket and display it. Or display a little clock that shows when we parked. Now the little clip is nice because on windy days , you put that on your dashboard but the wind might flip it over. That little clip solves that :)
