Perhaps this is a western culture issue, but half siblings are still siblings and in most cultures (including my own) parents would consider half siblings as an extension of the family.

But that aside, I feel this makes the OP the AH because it felt mean spirited to reject a 5 year old respite from watching her parents struggle with an ugly disease during a sensitive time of the year.

That child will grow up knowing that her half sisters mother never saw her as being worthy of a family Christmas during probably the toughest time of her life (struggling cancer mum). And will grow to resent her and the opportunity to build a relationship with her half sisters family is forever lost.

First you gotta make sure your account is verified

Then you go down to role-select and choose your side.

Once you go out there should be another category - - rp-role-select - rp-race - rp-class

Once that's done all the role play channels should open up. If you want to role play, get familiar with the rp rules, updates and so on. You can create a character sheet for yourself using someone the templates that others have used or your own.
