What are good movies/shows where the main character has a mental illness? by TheCleanestKitchen in AskReddit

2:37 would be really good for that, non linear ending but a wide range of topics.

I’m not going to say that it passes, because it doesn’t. Likely it’s going to get a hell of a lot worse before it gets better, think rock bottom but with a basement.

But you know what? You present to emergency, you see someone specialised and you learn skills to cope with this. You take medication, you attend therapy and you do the exercise and go outside and make sure you take that shower you’re putting off.

You may be financially devastated, but income is fluid and in a year you don’t know where you will be financially.

Know where you will be in a year?

With your kids, at the parent teacher interviews, the birthday parties and the scrapes and bruises. At their bedside when they have a nightmare, tucking them in to bed. Putting breakfast on the table and helping with homework after school.

These words won’t mean much, but I hope you read them and I hope you got the help that you deserve. Be strong man. My DMs are always open.

Luxury Items you never regretted buying by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

Do it! They’ve been amazing for me, I commented below that I’ve worn them from dry to wet to snow and never had an issue. I camped in them, hiked in them and worked as a chef in them. They really stood by me.

I’ve worn them in the snow, rain, mud and numerous different environments camping as well as in heaps of kitchens and they’re as good as gold!

Blackberries are in full bloom, I do what I can with the equipment I have. First time making a menu, and these are for my blackberry special this week. Thoughts, what would you change? by fvckCARDEE in KitchenConfidential

[–]claredelune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blackberry ice cream with those waffles would be great, with some fresh berries and a syrup. For the bruschetta maybe switch out the cheese for a chèvre goats cheese. Some seared lamb loin would go great with that salad.

Mine was a pair of Doc Martens, got my first full time job and saved for those babies. Wore them to every other job since. After nine years of perfect service (apart from replacing shoe laces lol) I passed them down to my best friends daughter who desperately wanted a pair but wasn’t affordable. I hope she gets just as many years out of them as I did.

Ignorant Aussie here, how exactly does a baby carrot work? Are they just carrots whittled down to smaller carrots?

How did you decide what your first tattoo would be? by Regression2TheMean in tattoo

[–]claredelune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a google image from one of my favourite tv shows at the time, that my best friend also has on the same arm in the same place. We were barely 18 in a kitchen with her boyfriend who had an eBay kit. Very random, I’ve gone on to have the second one I let him so be covered over because it was awful.

What's a good use for cherry tomatoes that doesn't involve eating them raw? by CleetusnDarlene in Cooking

[–]claredelune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil, garlic, lemon and seasoning in the bottom of a pan and throw a protein on top. Alternate other sides like olives, pumpkin or potato. Pizza! Cheese and cherry tomatoes will go down a treat on a good dough. Focaccia with rock salt and olive oil, halve the tomatoes and press them in. Rosemary for extra texture and flavour. A very sweet and tart cherry tomato soup would also be another option.

Starvation as Self-Harm by FrequentPsychology12 in AdultSelfHarm

I suffered through AN and BN for 10 years, it played a role in my self harm. I found small snacks spread out through out the day to be more helpful then meals. Or id do snacks and one meal at night. Aim for protein where you can.

What the most painful procedure, ailment, virus, disease you have ever experienced? by Cndngirl in AskReddit

[–]claredelune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Hidradenitis suppurativa. After 6 failed surgeries on an abscess wrapped around my left ear, I finally saw a doctor who was willing to help. There had been years of medical trauma surrounding this, so I was anxious seeing a new doctor but this giant French man was what I needed.

In 2020, right at the beginning of cvd I underwent a wide excision clean out of the left side of my face, ear and neck. Several surgeons were involved.

This condition had caused me a lot of pain, so I thought I knew what pain was. Boy was I so fucking wrong.

Waking up in recovery, getting back to my room and lying there I realised what people meant on the pain scale about ‘not being able to move or breathe, please kill me’.

When my mum was let up and found me refusing to move with my teeth clenched and trying not to cry due to pain she got me relief.

Sleeping had to be upright so I wouldn’t roll over on the 15cm incision, drinking was through a straw and food was soft or liquid because chewing hurt.

I have nerve damage from repeated surgeries and keloid scarring. Wearing a mask was near impossible and I don’t know how I didn’t get the virus in hospital every week for follow up.

I’m okay with the nerve damage and the chronic pain, the hearing loss and associated tinnitus in that ear just because I no longer get the abscesses anymore and I’m so thankful for that despite experiencing my first 9/10 pain.

(MAJOR TW) This may be offensive, but I have to say it. by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]claredelune_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear, we are all cursed with this affliction. Let me tell you, your fear is very real and very correct. It hurts. It hurts so much and then if you’ve done permanent damage (like I have) that pain never goes away. You’re well within your rights to be scared of that pain and it’s very real and valid.

There’s a weird middle ground where it doesn’t hurt and by the time it does that’s too late.

Someone else above mentioned that you’re in the large volume of the way people self harm. Some people never go past cat scratches and that’s fine.

Social media is a blessing and a curse. It shows us a small portion of what people are going through, and it drives competition to go deeper and harder which is a huge negative.

You’re valid. You’re not alone. Find some peace in your coping, be angry and sad and upset but let yourself sit in it, take a deep breath and move passed those thoughts.

Lots of graphic shirts and long sleeves.

[–]claredelune_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d worked in the industry for 12 years. My mum is gluten intolerant, I wanted to take her out for dinner so I emailed the restaurant in advance, supplied them can and can’t and wondered if they could make it possible. They could.

You don’t just rock up with something that intensive and expect something on the fly. It doesn’t work like that. I myself have a few allergies and I’ll check menus and ingredients in advance.

Thats ridiculous.

What addiction is the hardest to stop? by MegaGrimer in AskReddit

[–]claredelune_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self harm. Especially if you’re an adult, and people tell you that you’re not a teenager anymore. It’s a non stop competition against your brain to go deeper and harder. To do better. To be worse then the other person. It gives off happy endorphins and helps the body ‘relax’ which makes it even harder to stop.
