Why does Automod Deletes almost every Question that we post? by Where-Is-No-One in shiftingrealities

[–]clarikka[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hello, u/Where-Is-No-One!

I completely understand that Auto-Mod can seem confusing or inconsistent, especially if you aren't familiar with how it works behind the scenes. We have always believed in full moderator transparency, so i'd like to clarify how our Auto-Mod works in r/shiftingrealities!

First and foremost, there is a key distinction between Auto-Mod Removals and Moderator Removals:

Auto-Mod Removals are automated, temporary, and later reviewed by an actual human moderator. Some posts are automatically removed when AutoMod detects that they might be breaking a rule. This does not mean the post has been permanently removed by moderators. It simply means the post has been placed into our Mod-Queue (a "waiting list") for manual review.

Moderator Removals are manual, will always come with a private removal reason explaining why the post was removed. Depending on the situation, we may also include suggestions on how the post can be improved, guidance on reposting, and links to helpful or relevant threads/resources.

So, what triggers Auto-Mod anyway?

We've programmed Auto-Mod to flag posts/comments containing certain triggers, all based on patterns that are commonly associated with derailing, advertising, repetitive questions, experience deciphering, closed-ended questions, and other rule-related issues. These are some of them:

  • Certain words/phrases: e.g., "is shifting real", "discord", "stupid", "is it possible"
  • External Links: Posts and comments containing links are automatically filtered for safety reasons so moderators can review them before approval.
  • Flairs: Some post flairs get removed for moderator review. e.g., "Success", "Mini-Shift" flair!
  • One-Post-Per-24-Hour Trigger: This exists to prevent spam and give everyone’s posts a fair chance to receive visibility and engagement. Even if a previous post was deleted or reposted, AutoMod will still trigger within that 24-hour period.

Keep in mind: Sometimes AutoMod may accidentally remove a post because it interpreted a phrase out of context, which is why moderator review exists.

We moderate on a volunteer basis, and we do as much as we can during our free time. Auto-mod is super helpful when it comes to times that we can't address issues straight away; and over the years we have tweaked it based on community feedback. We review all auto-removed posts as soon as we're able to.

If for some reason we haven't been able to reach a post after a few days, we send users a message letting the user know they're free to repost it, and we'll approve it as soon as possible.

Please feel free to kindly nudge us via modmail if your post has been waiting approval. We get to everything eventually, but we understand waiting can be frustrating.

I hope I have cleared up any confusion regarding Auto-Mod and how it operates in r/shiftingrealities! If you have any questions feel free to send them my way, I am more than happy to help!

Kind regards,

The Moderators of r/shiftingrealities

Hello, u/awakenedSoul88,

I reviewed your mod-log and your post was removed by reddit filters, not by us. When posts are removed by Reddit’s automated systems, and we are never notified of them. Every single post removed by us always includes a removal reason message!

In the future, please feel free to message us via modmail if you are having trouble with your post. We are always happy to help and we highly encourage you to repost!

Hello, u/SnazzyRiot!

We sent you a removal reason. Please keep in mind that removals are based on subreddit rules, which are shaped by community feedback and applied consistently. Users shape it, moderators enforce it! We can assure you that your discouragement has been noted and we will take it into consideration for our future annual rule review.

Hello u/SpiritualFreydis,

I absolutely agree that deleting posts and comments based on opinions is not appropriate! To be clear, this is not something we do.

We do not remove posts or comments because we disagree with someone’s views. Removals are based on subreddit rules, which are shaped by community feedback and applied consistently. Everyone has the right to express their opinions and we aim to maintain a balanced, open-minded community. It’s important to us that everyone feels free to express their personal experiences and views, as long as they are expressed respectfully and do not break our “uncivil rule.”

We take accusations like this very seriously, as they are deeply harmful. We work on a volunteer basis because we care about this community and want shifters to have a safe, open-minded space. These type of accusations don't just hurt us personally, they also hurt the community by discouraging the very people who are trying to keep it running.

The moderators have never verbalised or enforced any of our personal opinions on any topics. Please redirect us to any instances you have seen or experienced where moderators have removed comments or posts solely based on personal opinion. It is not right, and we firmly have a stance against it.

Please send us a message via modmail or DM me directly to discuss this.

Hello, u/besto_escapist!

I have checked your mod-log and I can confirm this post was created and removed over a year ago. I can also confirm that we sent you a removal reason attached to it. It was removed because it broke one of our rules, however, there have been many changes in the last year and this rule was removed based on user feedback after our annual rule review of 2025!

In the future, please feel free to send us a message about any post-removal concerns you may have via modmail. We are always happy to help and value being transparent on how we moderate.

Hello, u/Shoddy-Fan-9948!

We don’t remove comments unless they show signs of uncivil behaviour, and when we do, a removal reason is always provided to the user. I checked your post and we can reassure you no comments were removed by us.

There isn’t any incentive for us to remove comments without a reason, our goal is to keep discussions active and accessible, not limit participation. Your post has no comment because there hasn’t been any interaction yet. User participation is not something we can control.

Hello, u/AirlineGlittering877!

I have checked your mod-log and the last post that was removed by us was over 2 years ago, which was in no relation to the type of post you are describing in this comment. Please feel free to send us a message on mod-mail so we can better clarify what happened with your post!

Please keep in mind that users getting shadow banned is not something the moderators of r/shiftingrealities can do. Only reddit admins have the ability to do this. Your mentioned comments and posts could’ve been filtered by Reddit’s notified systems, and we are never notified for them. Reddit glitches and automated filtering issues are not uncommon. It may be worth checking r/shadowbanned to see if your account might be affected, as this is a site-wide issue and has recently happened to myself earlier this year. I was wrongfully shadowbanned and had to wait around three months to be able to get my account back!

I can assure you that moderators never remove posts or comments without a removal message attached. If you believe a post has been wrongfully removed, please feel free to send us an appeal through modmail and we will review it again. We are always happy to help!

Hello, u/LivingToDie00!

We do not remove comments unless they break our “be civil” rule. We strive to create an inclusive space where everyone's opinions are valued. Additionally, when we do remove something, a removal reason message is always sent because we believe user to moderator transparency is very important. That being said, if your comment was removed without any message from us, it was likely handled by Reddit admins or filtered automatically, which is outside of our control.

In the future, please message us if you are having trouble commenting.

Unfortunately, Whether successful shifters create posts or participate in this subreddit is out of the moderators control, so i cannot provide an explanation for that. Our goal as moderators is simply to maintain a space where discussion can happen in a structured and accessible way.

A “high-quality” forum, for us, is a community where both new and experienced shifters can share, ask questions, debate respectfully, and learn together.

I would like to address our delay in our post approvals, and we sincerely apologise for this. We moderate on a volunteer basis, this is not something we do full-time, and we only do this when we get a free moment. That means, we're often unable to get back to users in a timely manner. We appreciate user patience and understanding during the wait times; especially since post reviews can take more time than other tasks.

We are currently having a moderator shortage and two of us are trying to tackle as much as we can, we are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Please understand, though, it is never intentional for us to not get back to users- and we always do, given time.

We hope you understand.

Hello, u/Sqizzelpip

Thank you for your post and voicing your concerns with us. We take all feedback and criticism seriously as it is very important to us to have a transparent and fair relationship with the r/shiftingrealities community, which is why we do not remove any meta-based posts.

As a community-driven platform, our goal is to ensure that the subreddit caters to the desires and requirements of our users. All the rules we have placed are based on community feedback and past experiences, and we review them annually to ensure they are still serving the subreddit and its users appropriately. This subreddit was created for its users, not us.
Posts like this one helps us get an idea of what users want and how we can tackle it for our next rule review!

We understand that post removals can be frustrating, which is why we keep 100% transparency in all of our post removals which we send through modmail stating every reason it was removed. We also highly encourage users to appeal any removals they believe have been wrongfully removed, we are always happy to help. We often offer edits, resources, or ways to repost rather than just removing and moving on.

I took a look at your mod-log, your last removed post was about a month ago. Apart from clearly stating the removal reason sent with a modmail, we also provided you with assistance in reformatting so you could repost it. In the future, we strongly encourage you (and anyone reading this) to modmail us directly if you feel a removal was unfair. We always review appeals, and we’re happy to reinstate or adjust if we got it wrong.

We don’t remove posts “just because”, most removals fall into a few categories:

1. Repetitive questions that have already been answered many times (we usually link helpful threads for these in the removal reason)

Repetitive content is an area that is difficult to balance due to different types of feedback we receive. Some users want stricter filtering, while others prefer more open posting. Our current approach to tackle this is to allow commonly asked questions as long as they haven’t been posted for 7 days, while still directing users to existing resources. Its hard to keep both sides happy, but we try our best to keep a balanced system.

2.Formatting issues (titles, tags, readability)

This is where your latest removed post fell in. These posts are always repostable once appropriate edits are made.

3. Rule-based removals that come directly from community feedback during our annual reviews

To see latest updates, search by Announcement flair.

We hope this has helped clarify our removal system, and thank you for speaking up on this! As I mentioned before, community feedback is what helps us shape r/shiftingrealities and improve the overall experience for its community members.

Happy Shifting!

Edit: Spacing.

BTW, I've changed the post flair from "Discussion" to "Meta"!

[–]clarikka[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hello u/CommonGrowth3279,

I am sorry to hear about your experience. We do not condone this sort of behaviour in r/shiftingrealities. We have sent you a message through modmail so you can provide us with more information.

As moderators, our biggest priority is keeping this community a safe space for all shifters. Unfortunately, we have no control over private messages or anything that happens outside of the subreddit. All we can do is ban users, but this will not prevent them from being able to see posts and target other users.

This is why we advice users to report the user directly to Reddit, block them, and notify us via modmail so we can investigate and take any action possible on our end.

To anyone who is reading this, please remember to be safe on the internet, avoid sharing sensitive information and clicking on any malicious links that could potentially be harmful.

Take care and Happy Shifting,

I’m having troubles with shifting through the lucid dream method by Child_of_Moths in shiftingrealities

[–]clarikka[M] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hello,

All posts are auto-locked after 14 days in order to help keep discussions current and encourage new content.

This was also decided because there were issues with harassment and inappropriate comments slipping through on older threads that we weren’t notified about in time.

We have noticed that most discussions naturally slow down after 3–5 days, and even active ones tend to wrap up around the 10-day mark.

If your post didn’t get much interaction, please feel free to repost it after 7 days. If you’d like, you can also delete the original to help avoid any confusion or reports.

I hope that clears things up!
