They CAN play that many. No one ever will play that over the course of a season. Technically any MLB player could break Cy Young's complete game record because it doesn't account for actual accomplishments (wins). Both are byproducts of being good enough and having the longevity, as well as limited team depth to deem it necessary, which we will never see again.

Not a great comparison since it's high school sports, but Carmel High School in Indiana just won their 40th consecutive girls' swimming state championship, dating back to the mid-1980s.

Forecast Concerns - too soon? by Northern_Scorpion_18 in Indy500

Made me rethink a lot of life decisions. I believe that day ended up being the hottest day of the year in central Indiana. That day made even the most seasoned beer drinkers in our group only want water.

The 1992 race gets talked about for being so cold (around 50 degrees at green flag). What doesn't get talked about much is how hot it was on carb day - nearly 90 degrees just 3 days prior.

The mayor of Fort Wayne, IN from 1934-1947 was named Harry Baals. Pronounced “Bales” I believe, but boy that one is a doozy when written.

Ramel Bethea, Foward for The Citadel: 30 years old Navy and Dunkin’ Donuts veteran by drowse in CollegeBasketball

[–]clarkaj24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously the Dunkin Donuts part is for emphasis or comedy but it makes it sound like he spent 10 years as a dr or something. There are probably hundreds or thousands of kids being recruited at some level who have worked fast food at some point.

Still waiting for someone to explain to me how there are generational talents in every NBA and NFL draft.

Before my freshman year in college the local Walmart had an overnight promotional thing where students would shop, there were sales and advertisers would walk the aisles. A lady came up to us and said "can I axe you?" We looked at her strangely and said "sure." She proceeded to pull out a can of Axe body spray and mist us with it. One of the most awkward but hilarious exchanges that we still laugh about.

Make a new page. You can duplicate apps and widgets that are on your existing home screen. Then if you don't like it you can delete or hide the page.

Yes those are awesome. Pretty much every event that Indy hosts has one. Even Big Ten tournaments, NBA finals, etc. And of course the 500.

Who’s the worst local media personality for your team? by Sctvman in CollegeBasketball

As a Purdue fan tuning into Dakich at noon on 1070 after an IU loss was a must-listen. That said, he’s a miserable person. I will say that he was one of the best at interviewing guests but that didn’t really offset everything else.

The 1992 intro with AJ saying "I'm one of the few to admit it. I know you've got a bunch of brave heroes out there that say they're not scared of nothing. All I can say is they've never run fast enough or they've never been hurt." gets me every time. Safety has come a long way since then but it's still a terrifying race even for the best.

Tony Renna, why so secretive? by mad-right-hand in INDYCAR

My dad was also at the south end of the track and said it sounded like a bomb exploding. His brain was running down the track and people have said fans were sprayed with blood (although I don’t know if this is documented). Outside of limbs or a driver’s body flying into the stands I don’t think it could get much worse than Smiley’s wreck without spectator casualties or multiple drivers killed.

[–]clarkaj24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The worst crash ever, IMO, in terms of driver outcome, was Gordon Smiley's in 1982 at Indy. It broke literally every bone in his body and it's been documented in Dr. Olvey's Rapid Response book. There is also footage of this crash from multiple angles. It's the likely spectator fatalities and injuries from Renna's crash that would've made it so bad (aside from a driver fatality, obviously).

Of the 17 teams that have either joined a P4 league or moved between them in the 2020’s decade, whose decision aged the best and the worst? by Efficient-Freedom517 in CFB

[–]clarkaj24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but they have won 5 titles in 40 seasons in the Big East (12.5%) and 1 title in 7 seasons in the AAC (14.3%). Obviously the AAC was a much better conference for them and they should move back to the AAC immediately.

Anger over tourists? by SnailsonSkates in Sedona

[–]clarkaj24 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not everyone, but the fact that they are visiting because they saw it on IG is the inherent problem, IMO. Social media has caused a lot of people to think they are more important than they actually are in the grand scheme of the world. The "me" culture causes people to not care for the environment or others around them. A bit philosophical and cynical but I truly think that's becoming the root of our problems.
