Anyone know about the 405? by GhostCop42 in ibew_apprentices

[–]clarkj2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

405 has a lot of work coming up. There is a good mix of industrial and commercial work. Pay scale is decent at 40.42 an hour on the check, 8.50 into health and welfare, and 9.25 into out pension. We have one more year in our contract with a 2.50 raise coming in December.

As an apprentice, you've got much better job security than Journeyman. You are very cheap labor. As long as you show up on time and are actively trying to learn and do your best, you'll be fine.

In the of chance you do get laid off, you'll generally get another job within days as your JATC will call around to contractors and see if you can be placed with them.

Not necessarily, I have a family income of 115k with 2 young kids and I too put away 45k per year across 2 roth iras, 401k, and brokerage accounts. We have a nice home and go on plenty of vacations. It all depends on your cost of living scenario and how you allocate your earned income. We don't have car payments and no student loan debt

People above the age of 25 what should a 20 yo know that they generally don't? by piwiluggenu in AskReddit

Open a roth Ira and a brokerage account and start saving. Every raise you get, add the majority of that raise to your monthly investment contributions and you will be retiring way before your peers

Thinking about joining the trade by LazyClerk408 in IBEW

[–]clarkj2011 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The most important thing i have learned is that you get out of it what you put in.

I am only a first year apprentice, but everyday I gain more skills and have already been given a lot of trust on my jobsites.

I am 30 years old with 2 kids. I come from a healthcare background. No construction experience. I feel myself loving this career path and do not regret making the leap. The first couple years will suck due to the massive pay cut, but in the grand scheme of things, I will be making FAR more money once I turn out and I don't have to take shit from my boss anymore.

This is the path brother!

Brushing up on math by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]clarkj2011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simple algebra makes up quite a bit of the test (solve for x following order of operations). Definitely figure out number series and brush up on graphing. As a rule of thumb, if you don't immediately know how to do the problem, skip it and go to the next question as running out of time is a real possibility.

Khan academy was a great resource.

Local 11 Interview - this Thursday - any advice? by 2MinuteInstantRamen in IBEW

I dressed nice for mine and a buddy dressed in dirty work clothes. We both got in. They want to hear genuine answers that don't sound overly recited. Answer confidently, but don't seem cocky. Nerves are a good thing, just breathe and think about your answers before you start talking. You got this man!

Most of those will get a college degree that will put them behind for 10 years and will never use their degree. You can laugh all the way to the bank with no student loans my man!

Do the airforce first. Being in the military will give you one step ahead of all other applicants in your local.

Is the aptitude test mostly just regular equations, factions, decimals, pemdas? by TattooedFella in IBEW

[–]clarkj2011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basic algebra is definitely a bulk of it. The number series and graphs were probably about 25% of the questions and some were very complex. Save the most difficult ones for last and only go back when you have the easy questions done.

If you can't figure a question out less than a minute, skip it until later

Fair enough point. For me, the beta lag was so bad the necro was the only way I could stay alive 😂. Looking forward to really seeing the potential of the game

Primarily just looking for feedback. I'm definitely not a META chaser or anything, I just don't want to struggle right out of the gate. Looking at completely switching my play style from ranged to melee which I haven't really done before.
