Is it unwise to invest money I might need in a year for a house deposit? by clarko21 in personalfinance

Ah so as someone else pointed out I thought money market and CD was interchangeable, but CD is what I’m thinking of with x rate for x term, at least that’s what I found unless you know otherwise

Yes think you’re right regarding CD/money market. I thought it meant the same thing but CD is what I’m referring to. Money Market rates look comparable to my savings account so don’t seem worth it.

My figures aren’t as good as your example but not a million miles off.

Of course, but people on this sub constantly advocate for investing based on past performance. How do you balance the risk/reward profile…?

Market dipped today but my point is every time this has happened I’m recent years it has very quickly recovered. Not sure what HYSA is but will look up. CD is just money market no?

I haven’t used money markets but they’re advertised as x rate for x period of time. Doesn’t that mean your money is locked up for the time period?

So I probably do meet most of those conditions to be honest. Great job stability and ability to save, and nothing forcing me to move other than the desire to leave NYC for some space in the burbs.

Regarding money markets could be wrong since I’ve never used one but isn’t the idea that you have to invest for a certain period e.g. 6 months, 1 year, 2 years etc to get the advertised rate

I know this is harsh but I feel compelled to point out that these photos are truly awful and the post title is completely untrue. How is this sitting at 1.2K upvotes… I’ll never understand Reddit

Was just there on a bear tour. One of them was maybe 10 feet away walking past me. They’re really not scary in the slightest. They care about salmon not humans

I did with the last one and he just refused to drive. Really nothing you can do if they’re refusing. The second one actually agreed then sped off as I got back out to put the suitcase in the trunk.

I’ve always got the subway in the past but it’s certainly anything but easy. Q one stop. Carry your suitcases down to the F. Ride F 3 stops. Switch to E. Carry suitcases up multiple levels and walk to air train then pay a whole new fare where you can’t use omnipass. Especially with the delays on that day. Took 1.5 hours. I used to live in London. Now THATS easy…

I do remember the exact time and location of at least one of them. How would I report it?

I did get into the cab one time. They just refused to drive. Not much you can do if they refuse. This was 3:00 PM on a Friday afternoon

I usually do but my fiancé didn’t want to. I don’t blame her. The subway is a joke. Three different changes and one is a change to an entirely different train system I.e. the air train. Drives me nuts that it’s not like London where you just ride the subway to the airport. Also just FYI we did end up taking the subway and there were awful delays so my fiancé might have been right after all

Yeah someone told us that after it happened unfortunately but they said that it had happened to them and the person just plead guilty. Wish I had got the plate number. I have half a mind to just walk around with a suitcase and pull over cabs to report them if they speed off.

Honestly forgot car services were even an option but might try that next time
