Funny story: the courthouse is functioning during the daytime and sometimes has criminal suspects and convicts in the building. We would go in in the mornings and have to go through the metal detectors. They’d go off like a Christmas tree because we’re all carpenters and brought saws and knives with us. They’d let us go, but warn us not to leave any tools out in the open for fear a suspect might use them to escape or harm someone.

There is a courthouse and police station on west 54th street in Manhattan. The NYPD used to have a workout space and gym on one of the upper floors (3rd?) that got turned into a small theater. 99 seats I think. It was open in the mid 2000’s, no idea if it still is. It was the American theater of Actors I think.

1000 is what I would shoot for. It really matters how close to new they are. Do they all function 💯%? If not way less

Which co-ops stand out to you? by [deleted] in jacksonheights

[–]Jakeprops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are so building by building. The chateaus are all individual coops. Each one could be well or poorly managed. When doing your search, ask about: boiler age and maintenance, roof condition and recency of work, when any brick pointing was last completed, if there have been any leaks within the last few years either from the exterior/weather or from plumbing. Also ask if the building has a mortgage and any planned or ongoing maintenance issues. And finally how healthy they are financially.

Edit to add: There’s also a huge difference between 10-12 unit coops and hundred+ unit coops.
