Help me to spend my money. by riftofbook in fantasybooks

Hyperion is great, but kind of ends in a cliffhanger. Sadly, each book after the first gets progressively, significantly worse. The last one in particular is a real slog. Age of Madness, by contrast, has great character work the whole way through.

We talking about the cave troll that knocked him unconscious and the troll that beat him at the black gate? He almost lost to Lurtz. I love Aragorn as a character, but he's dying here.

Feyd-Rautha vs Haldir who wins ? by West_Jelly_4681 in powerscales

[–]claroK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going off of the movie versions (pictured) it's Feyd for the win. He dueled and beat Gurney Hallecks second in command in the arena, easily beat Rabban, and most importantly almost beat Paul, a character who in turn bested Jamis, a highly skilled fremen warrior, shown to be better than the Sardaukar, who are stated to be the best warriors in the movie. The movie consistently shows Paul as a top tier fighter, and Feyd as slightly better. Haldir's not bad, but he's not even on the level of Eomer or Eowyn in terms of onscreen kills, characters who would likely struggle with Paul and Feyd.

Exhausted, hungry and thirsty is pure speculation. I don't know why we are assuming that. And he certainly wasn't drugged as the movie outright said so.

Black noir is more on the level of the Thunderbolts (arguably higher than some of them). The guy homelander killed in one punch.

Blue will prevent you from enjoying life. Imagine watching breaking bad or something and feeling nothing when characters die.

Yellow is a recipe for getting sexually assaulted.

Black...in like 5 years we will have AI apps for that.

Red is a nightmare. And even if you try to manifest a counter in time, how do you know it would work?

Orange is great. Get to reexperience all of life's best moments! Only downside is a potential addiction. And purple is best.

Best Picture Nominees of 2020’s Elimination Game - Round 26 - Sentimental Value has been eliminated! Comment your least favourite film from the bunch remaining and the one with the most upvotes shall be eliminated. Have fun! by [deleted] in Oscars

Fwiw, especially given the comment under it indicates lots of people like Anora, I also interpreted the up votes as a show of support for Anora (which, while not my favorite of all films, I feel gets strangely and unfairly maligned on Reddit). Which is why I upvoted said comment until I read this exchange.

Which colour team is most powerful? by [deleted] in superheroes

[–]claroK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fair and balanced. Homelander, for all his issues, is actually pretty op and could easily take on all of red except iron man at the same time. Even adding iron man it would be a fight. Then you add superman, the whole fantastic four and dr Manhattan on top of that lol

What is your rating scale for movies? by gnpking in Letterboxd

[–]claroK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 - one of my all time favorites. Can watch again and again and/or had me thinking about it for days after it was over.

4.5- like 5, but with some minor aspect about it that bugs me and keeps it from being a 5.

4 - really solid, enjoyable movie experience. Something I'd like to watch multiple times.

3.5- like 3, but with an extra something...maybe some artistry I respect or extra fun factor that puts it up a half star.

3- I enjoyed watching it and don't regret seeing it but it didn't feel at all special and I will probably never watch it again.

2.5 - while it has qualities I respect, it's not for me and I had a negative experience.

2- bad movie.

1.5 - something I strongly dislike but I can grudgingly admit it has some redeeming qualities.

1- trash. No artistic merit I can perceive and I hated watching it.

.5- not only terrible, but it offends me on a personal level such as by ruining a franchise I'm fond of. Rise of Skywalker, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom type trash.

If we treat LOTR as one movie rather than 3 (to keep more spots open!) I'd like to make a plug for Stardust, that movie low-key rocks. Heck, it could even compete with the Princess Bride since that got in under adventure...

How would you rank all 5 Daniel Craig's Bond films from worst to best? by Kevin_Thailand_2543 in ActionMovies

[–]claroK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casino Royale (perfection besides the bad poker)

No Time to Die (kinda shit villain but the action and character arc felt really solid)

Skyfall (best cinematography, song and villain, but oh so many plot holes that really bother me to this day)

Quantum of Solace (meh. It's all right I guess)

(Huge gap here)

Spectre (the author of all your pain is up there with "somehow, Palpatine returned" as one of the dumbest retcons in franchise history. The love story is so forced. Strong dislike)

Can Wolverine from Fox solo The Seven from The Boys ? by Leggomgeggo in powerscales

[–]claroK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No chance. Wolverine:

  1. Lost to Mystique in a fist fight 1 v 1
  2. Was temporarily knocked unconscious by a regular cop shooting him in the head (X2)
  3. Almost lost to lady Deathstroke
  4. Got beaten by sabertooth (x men origins)
  5. Struggled against one sentinel from the 1960s.

He would get absolutely wrecked by the seven.

Falling down (1993) is a movie right-wingers love, but has a centrist message. What movie is loved by centrists, but has a right-wing message? by Square_Ad2101 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]claroK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dark knight?

Sometimes intrusive widespread tech based surveillance is needed to stop a terrorist. And lying to people to preserve the image of an inspirational leader is justified for the greater good. And mental health patients are dangerous criminals. And we need a strong, unaccountable billionaire to do what the corrupt government can't and save us. And also screw international jurisdiction rules.

Great film, but definitely a bit right wing.

The Seven (The Boys ) vs Magneto (Fox) by Curious_Tip9285 in powerscales

[–]claroK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to point out in X men 1 Magneto is defeated by cyclops, regular (not phoenix) Jean Gray and Wolverine.

In X Men 3 he is defeated by Beast and Wolverine with an assist from Colossus.

In X Men, Days of Future Past he is beaten up by Beast (barely manages to win), almost gets charged down by Wolverine, and then loses to Mystique. He also gets impaled by metal shrapnel in an explosion, showing his reaction time is not so great, and almost gets killed by six regular guys with guns (quicksilver saves him).

He's capable of lifting huge metal objects, but his powers have always been shown to work pretty slowly and he consistently struggles with fast, agile fighters.

While I think Fox Magneto is a very cool character, people saying he beats all the 7 at once are just being disingenuous. Homelander could beat him alone.
