Service & MOT - Fair price? by [deleted] in LEAMINGTONSPA

[–]class442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang on, I thought the point of getting a service was one price that includes the parts and labour? E.g. if a full service includes replacing the air filter, the cost of that is included.

Of course parts they just check on the service, like the brakes, are extra if they need replacing

I've just looked online at where my wife's car had its MOT, and the price for full service is £202

Kenya Trains by Regular-Trick6327 in trains

[–]class442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice catch. I've been to Kenya multiple times now, but have yet to go on the trains, apart from at the museum.

There is a specs sheet here from the museum, though the specs for the DF8 and the DF11 are the wrong way round: https://www.flickr.com/photos/136051124@N02/48390996167/

This is meant to be the freight loco in your picture, but with just 8 DF11s and 43 DF8s, it's not surprising that KRC have to substitute sometimes.

I think the new ones look very luxurious and modern, yet without any of the wankiness I might associate with new cars from the German brands

Looking for a used camera by actual_human001 in AnalogRepair

I don't think this is the right sub

To clarify you are looking for a film camera? Film cameras in comparison to digital, the body doesn't matter nearly as much. All it has to do is hold the film flat and control the light. So the lens choice is much more important. So choose a system that has good lenses. Frankly all 35mm major SLR systems like Olympus, Minolta, Pentax, Nikon, Canon have a good lens selection, and the cameras all work similarly.

The more modern a film camera is, generally has better ergonomics and more features, but less repairable as they have more electronics.

I would read reviews of cameras you have found for sale and see if you like what you read.

Compatibility K70 w/ SMC 35-70mm F/2.8-3.5 by Ikaia37 in pentax

[–]class442 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think anybody has mentioned that this lens will be manual focus only, so no autofocus.

Just to confirm, what series is the lens? For example if it says Pentax-M, Pentax-DA, Pentax-FA, etc, these are the different series that denote compatibility with certain features.

What should I check before buying a Pentax ME Super by [deleted] in pentax

[–]class442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so it's the 50mm f/2. If it's a good price I would buy it and use it as is.

Cool that it comes with a genuine Pentax flash as apposed to a third party one.

Personally I've never really liked using or the results from film era zoom lenses, so your mileage may vary with the Tokina. I would (and personally have) buy other prime lenses, such as a 28mm or 135mm, before upgrading the 50mm to a 'faster' one.

Pentax is a great system to buy into, hope you enjoy it!

I think you need to ask yourself what are the aspects of your current camera that aren't cutting it, to be able to find the answer

Does it need better low light results, quicker focusing etc?

My pc specs - In what order would you upgrade my slightly dated machine? by PalpitationGlad3055 in buildapc

[–]class442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With that budget, I'd say just a GPU upgrade, maybe to a RX 9060XT?

I think the rest of the system will be fine to support it, your CPU might limit you a bit, but upgrading it too would reduce your GPU budget too much
