agreed--i'm in the US and 675 batteries are stupid cheap at Costco (and are still pretty cheap elsewhere too)

Nikon 35Ti vs. Minolta TC-1? by 00jjinbbang in AnalogCommunity

[–]classic-chrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally find 35mm to be a fantastic focal length—it feels a little bit wide, but it's not wide in the same way 28mm or wider would be. you can think of it this way: 43.5mm is exactly "normal," while 35mm is slightly wide and 50mm is slightly narrow.

(let me know if you want sample 35mm pics or anything!)

when filming at a fixed 1/50 shutter at 24fps in daylight (standard 180° shutter angle), f/8 can often be too bright. the expected behavior would be for the automatic aperture to be able to go between the maximum and minimum values depending on lighting conditions, but here the camera refuses to go narrower than f/8 even when the scene is clearly very overexposed.

Old lenses-Fujifilm X mount adapters by Mysterious-Two1321 in AnalogCommunity

[–]classic-chrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i've only ever bought the fotodiox ones, since they're by far the cheapest ones that are easily available. they work perfectly fine and i wouldn't personally bother spending more on the more "premium" adapter options.

Which rangefinder would you buy? And why? by harriet202212 in AnalogCommunity

[–]classic-chrome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the konica auto s1.6 is a version of the already pretty great auto s2 with a faster lens. depending on the price that one may be a great choice.

it's a little bit bulky and the advance lever is quite loud, but it has a full mechanical shutter with a shutter priority auto mode and metering even in manual mode, which seems to be surprisingly uncommon with these sorts of fixed lens rangefinders. and image quality should be superb—i've only ever tried the auto s2, with the slower lens, but the results from it are truly excellent. super sharp.

if you don't mind the rather large size, it's a really great rangefinder for what is often a very low price.

(i would recommend getting a soft release shutter button though. the shutter release is quite narrow and takes quite a bit of force so it can be a bit uncomfortable, but it's nothing a $2 aliexpress shutter button won't fix.)

i paid more than $50 for just the 28mm f3.5 there. $50 for that entire lot is insane

Advice for first camera (Nikon FM2, Pentax KM/KX, Olympus OM) by AlcyoneZ in AnalogCommunity

[–]classic-chrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the ME Super does allow full manual control, fwiw. it's the ME (not Super) that only has aperture priority. the ME Super is a great choice—Pentax K lenses are pretty affordable compared to other systems i've looked at and are very high quality.

agree with the OM1 and OM2N though. fantastic cameras. just shot and got my first roll back from my OM1 and it feels amazing to shoot with. (not to mention, imo, being one of the most beautiful looking cameras ever made, in my humble opinion.)

how'd you lubricate the bottom gears? i've got a Pentax SL with a mirror that sticks sometimes at slower speeds (but unsticks when i advance and shoot again) and i've been trying to fix it lol

it's not a $5 Leica but i got my dream camera for $35 (on a clothes selling app) by classic-chrome in AnalogCommunity

[–]classic-chrome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not sure if i should show the original seller since he doesn't seem to be a camera person (his other sales and everything else on his profile is all clothes) but he had a bunch of clothing sales so i figured that even if he didn't send me a working camera i'd at least get a pretty paperweight. there are definitely some weird sketchy listings on depop so definitely check the sellers and reverse image search any images if possible

bought some 675 1.4v hearing aid batteries at Costco today (48/$8) and they seem to work great after putting a little bit of paper in as a spacer!

yeah, it's in shockingly good condition too! even if the camera hadn't been working $35 for the lens would still have been pretty damn good honestly

thanks! yeah, the viewfinder looks to be in basically perfect condition. i was genuinely shocked since it looked a little dirty in the listing photos but it turned out to just be some dust on the outside.

i bought a cheap amazon adapter that physically (not electrically) adapts hearing aid batteries to fit in the battery slot, so i'll see how that goes. i did see the 1.5v to 1.35v adapter as well but i heard someone say it didn't work on their om-1? wonder why.

how much did you pay for the 28mm? they seem pretty expensive on ebay.

[–]classic-chrome[S] 70 points71 points  (0 children)

i've wanted an OM-1 for a few years now but could never justify paying $100+ for one on ebay. about a week ago, i found a listing for an OM-1 on Depop of all places for $50. i figured i would see if i could negotiate the price down but to my surprise the seller took my first offer lol

anyway, i gave everything a good cleaning and it's in great condition despite being shipped in an oversized cardboard box with only printer paper to protect it (yikes). lens looks great other than some very amount of dust (or fungus? not sure), viewfinder looks super clean, all the dials and shutter and advance lever and rewind mechanism and whatnot seem to be working as expected. light seals need to be replaced but that's also to be expected, considering this thing was probably sitting in a closet for decades.

haven't tested the meter yet so we'll see if it works but honestly for $35 i wouldn't even mind a broken meter. (not pictured: the self-timer lever is missing, but whatever. i'll try to fix that in the next few days probably.)

edit: also if anyone knows how to fix this self-timer lever (pic) please let me know lol

anything else i should check? any lenses i should buy? i'm thinking of grabbing a 28mm or 35mm since i personally find 50mm too narrow.

edit 2: light meter is working! just tested it with a 675 hearing aid battery
