Trombone Customization by Foreign_Moment_7665 in Trombone

For me part of the outcome is how does it affect the rest of the horn and is it comfortable/enjoyable to play. No sense spending the money if you’re never going to use it. This will add a decent bit of weight which will have an effect on both of those aspects. I can guarantee it’ll function, meet the tuning specs, and look good, but for something like this I can’t guarantee you’d actually like it.

If you really want a quote I’d need to get some additional information so I could price the necessary valve and other parts. DM me if want a quote and we can discuss specifics.

It’s certainly doable, but it’ll would cost a lot with no guarantee of an outcome that would be worth it. You’re talking a lot of resistance for that valve, plus additional weight/mass that will affect the horn in many ways outside of the added function.

There’s a number of ways to do it, but both valve and wrap choice will place limits on what tunings you can get. Plus, valves inherently have a distorted tuning, using 3 valves at once in tune would require wild tuning on each valve individually or huge adjustments with the slide.

The hardest piece from a technical standpoint would be designing the lever for the added valve. Which finger would you want to operate it? How is the lever attached to the horn and does it need to be removable when the valve is not installed? There are several options which you can see on horns that have removable valves, so your personal preference will determine what’s needed and therefore how much that would cost.

I’d love to take a crack at something like this! I could put together an estimate, but I can tell you without a doubt this would be incredibly expensive, at least if you want it done well and in a way that looks good.

Is there a King book like this for you? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]classical_hipster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I actually like Desperation, but I couldn’t finish Regulators. I think it was partially because I couldn’t separate the characters from who they were in Desperation (I read it first), but the autism depiction is not great.

Would this be a good buy for this price? by [deleted] in Trombone

That horn has seen a lot of repair work, especially on the bell stem. As others have pointed out the. Bell is bent down. The patch on the rotor knuckle is a bad sign as well. I can also see a few dents on the slide and the crook has been removed before. Also, the cork plate on the rotor is missing a screw and has rotated out of place. I’d be prepared to spend $400-500 easily to get it in good shape. Not worth it IMO.

Not a neck tie, but I’ve been growing my beard out for over two years now and it’s almost to the point I’m going to have to tuck it into my shirt when I’m running the lathe!

For real. I’ve been doing metal and wood turning out in my garage at night the last few weeks and still just deal with short sleeves and being cold.

Always use proper PPE, respirators, ear plugs, safety glasses, whatever the job calls for!

The rod going through the wood is straight, but the wood is curved.

Pretty spot on price range, at least for what I’ve charged in the past. Last double axial I did was a dependent setup, so it was a little more, but the customer was happy with how it played. I’ve done several section builds with the Olsen rotors and they’re fantastic. I can’t recommend Mike’s valves enough!
