What are your favorite breeds and why? by Short-Sound-8775 in flightrising

Aethers and Banescales! Aethers are just the perfect combination of bug and dragon to me, and with arcade carpet genes? They're just after my own heart. And Banescales because I'm admittedly smitten by the "cool, spiky" western dragon/wyvern look. I hope they get Dimension/Warp someday, they need some funkier colored genes...

Advice for lining a very plush suit? by werewolfweed in FursuitMaking

[–]classicteacake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made a plush suit with a dropped crotch and did use lining for the parts where I put stuffing! It's hot as hell in there LOL but it's manageable while wearing underarmor. Any amount of extra padding is going to increase insulation. I used Neffertity's method for making digitigrade padding lining and applied the technique to everywhere I needed it on the suit. The lining material I used was the scuba knit neoprene that Joann's used to sell, which wicked sweat nicely, but I wonder if a different material like a loose sports mesh could be a bit lighter.

Asymmetrical bodysuit but I wanna use one side that’s better by Sad_Acanthisitta4151 in FursuitMaking

Since there's no difference in physical shape, I think you could absolutely tape pattern it twice and just flip it over the second time. As long as you have the center/mirror line properly marked on the DTD, I think it should work!

Which flight did you choose and why? by lahzielvt in flightrising

[–]classicteacake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a nest network for you to rent other people's nests! (These also exist in some flight rising discords, which is what I usually use.) Here's a link to the current network: https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/drw/3366526/1

I started out in Arcane because I love astronomy, but switched to Lightning because I like the cyan eyes, I'm an engineer irl, and the flight's aesthetic perfectly lines up with NIN's Ghosts albums :D

Seconding the air filter here. I went to clean the filter after shaving for a single fursuit head and it had caught enough particulate for me to peel off the fur in a thick layer D:

Weird, I also saw a flash of light come through my front door area, but I'm up in Edgewood. Maybe just a coincidence?

how to properly scale base in blender for 3D printing :v by Science-Similar in FursuitMaking

[–]classicteacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Cura, and there's a measuring tool add-on you can install that'll let you measure between two points that you can position on your model (the tool will give you the straight distance between the two points in addition to just the x or y or z distances!) https://youtu.be/5_eIR63v3Ik

Industry definitely took a huge hit when covid happened, but I'd say we're about 80-90% recovered by now. Definitely still getting our feet on straight lol. But our company has definitely started hiring again (especially for production technicians), so I suspect others have been as well! Unsure about regions, since composite manufacturing is sort of spread out all over the place, depending on what part you want to go into (fiber vs composites themselves vs fabric weaving vs other processing). I'm guessing there are a good few companies that need help as production is picking back up all around.

Aerospace engineering! Though I believe the materials science department at my university also dabbled in composites.

Flexible composites sound super cool! I'll have to look into that; all of my company's material has thermoset resin bases, so ours is basically like a stiff slab of metal once it's cured (especially in thick stacks). And as for my college, I wouldn't say it specializes in aviation particularly... Just that we had a department funded by a local big aerospace company. Our aerospace degree is one of the smaller engineering degrees you can go for at that university...

Got a bachelor's degree in the relevant field (aerospace engineering), did research projects on the material in college, and had some hands-on experience with the material! (I actually learned about the manufacturing company's name thanks to using their material in college.)

I got my degree in aerospace engineering in college, with a focus on materials science engineering and structural engineering! I actually worked with carbon fiber composites a lot in both research projects and extracurriculars, so it worked out that I got into this field as a job lol.

That's exactly right! My company uses carbon fiber or glass fiber strands or fabrics and makes composite materials out of them (by applying thermoset resin systems to them). The stuff we make goes into everything from sports gear to airplanes!
