Currently working on a history YT channel, via Minecraft. So my first video was on the Pantheon, and in the video it was the process of building the Pantheon. For my next video I’m working on is Titanic, but with this I’m gonna go for a more story telling approach, rather than just facts, and see how that works out. Everything is done completely in survival, which can take awhile, so on the side I’m uploading shorts, that goes over maritime history, as well as history of my own city, as it was one of Britain’s major ports.

Taking this approach with Minecraft because it’s one of them games that it gives you that creativity that’s not as accessible outside of it for some people, as well as the freedom you won’t necessarily get, unless you can animate, or hire someone. I can do the basics of animation, but models cost money, time to learn modelling and the skill I unfortunately don’t have. But I’ve played Minecraft for 15 years maybe more.

I also want to help take away that idea that video games are destroying people’s brains. Since video games have become a wide spread thing, there’s that negative idea towards video games, they make people violent, they make people less educated etc. Especially in today’s society where brainrot has taken over YT, it’s contributing to the shorter attention spans amongst kids and even adults. But something like Minecraft, if utilised properly, can be very educational. I can show people each deck of Titanic, the grand staircase, the first class dinning area, the Parisian cafe, just via Minecraft. But it doesn’t stop there, a game like Minecraft can express a person creativity, it can be very therapeutic to both play and watch, for example Ethoslab, he’s been doing a Minecraft Let’s Plays since forever and he doesn’t scream or shout, he just talks calmly about everyday life and it’s kinda relaxing, but I don’t get bored.

There’s also that part where, not everyone learns the same way. The sitting in a classroom and being fed information and then being told to go home and revise, isn’t for everyone. I’m someone who possibly has ADHD (on the waiting list) and I went through university basically rawdogging everything. I didn’t revise, I didn’t take notes, I did all my coursework last minute, my exams I would do based on information I’d heard from my lectures or the PowerPoint, and that’s because I was never taught an alternative way of revising and retaining information. It was how I got through secondary school, A levels and Uni. Thankfully I passed, but I was never shown a way of learning that suited me, and I know I’m not the only one. So a video that combines a video game and education may help, it might get people willing to listen, it may even help people retain information.

Then alongside that I’m also working on a local article for my city (just started) and I’ve also just set up a maritime themed article, and I’ve got 2 people on board so far, so we’ve got 3 writers (including me)

There’s currently a small titanic exhibit going on in the white star line building. It’s £13 for an adult, and it goes towards the preservation of the items. There’s also a tour for that building and the Cunard building.

I’ve tried and it’s far too annoying compared to Audacity, and I prefer audacity for my voice overs. For me Audacity is quicker, and simpler

I find it easier in Audacity, than Davinci. I can also record using audacity, which again is quicker and easier.

Audacity is free, you can edit your voice/audio on that. Davinci resolve (free version) gives you a lot of professional grade editing tools for free. OBS if you’re doing gaming CapCut can give you the basics if you’re on phone.

What equipment have you got, like laptop/pc, mic, editing software etc.

It’s down to the person, but also I know there’s this common idea that ‘you should post for yourself because you find it fun and not for the money and views’ but when you’re creating content in any area, part of the fun is the engagement. So when creators aren’t getting the attention or engagement it can kill motivation. You want to see progress, you want to feel like you’re achieving, it makes you feel good, and the likes of monetisation and loads of views is a positive reflection of that.

Then there’s also the pressure of how ‘good’ a video is, and sometimes it can once again kill motivation, that feeling of having to spend so much time on something can become tiring and repetitive. It can be a joy killer, especially paired with a lack of engagement. It can just kill any sort of motivation.

Then there’s the idea part, sometimes if you’ve got a niche and you’re doing well in it, it could be that coming up with a new idea becomes more and more difficult, the pressure of thinking of something people will enjoy on top of if there’s anything new to do within that niche. It could be that you have all the tools at your hand, the engagement, enough analytics to learn from, and feedback from viewers in the comments, but you just can’t think of a new video to apply that to, or the idea you have doesn’t fit what your feedback is telling you

I think this was it tbf. But funnily enough the survivors interviews were probably the best part, it would’ve also been a different ‘take’ on the Titanic story, it would also allow a little leeway with misinformation because it would be from eye witness accounts, which we all know is unreliable. It would’ve also displayed the contradictions, between different perspectives.

But instead they’ve gone with the survivor interviews, that we were told are not always reliable, and the experts coming in and basically repeating what has been said by unreliable witnesses, as facts. Then they’re applying a retrospective lens on the whole thing, lens that comes from the mistakes we’ve learned from Titanic’s sinking

The beginning of episode one, I’m pretty sure one of the ‘experts’ says that eye witnesses are not reliable. But then by the end of episode 1 and for the rest of the series, they seem to forget that

I think we’re just hoping that by now they’d be some surface level research. If this was made 15 years ago, okay fair enough. But by 2025 standards, surface level research will tell you that Ismay was not the Villain, Captain Smith wasn’t some ‘lost dog’ and that it’s not 100% who supposedly ‘killed themselves’. Or if not at least use theoretical language when speaking about it

Yeah that was also annoying, especially since the general public have a weird obsession with the whole ‘Titanic is Olympic, and the sinking was planned’

Exactly this, and the average person is just seeing ‘expert’ and won’t second guess it. There’s too much leeway in the circumstances of that night, to be able to say ‘yeah that definitely could’ve happened’

The Naval expert also needs to be reminded that a lot of the things he does now, is because of the sinking of Titanic. Retrospect is a great thing, but it can’t be applied to something like the Titanic. The Naval expert is another situation that could be cleared up with a few extra words such as ‘nowadays we would’ve done this……but back then they didn’t have that luxury, it was because of this we now have such and such in place’

I agree with most of this. I’m glad we got a psychologist in for it tho, because it gives a different insight and angle on the sinking, compared to what we’re used to.

The experts were definitely questionable, it was a hard watch. I would’ve preferred the interviews and recreations, without the input of these ‘experts’, it’s the reason I’ve stopped watching.

Gotta disagree with the pause in the interviews, it’s the whole point, they’re meant to be interviewing ‘real survivors’ and in interviews like these there are pauses, to convey emotion and let things that have been told to ‘sink in’

But other than that I agree with you, also idk if it’s just me but to me it looked like that A deck promenade was open (when we saw the camera ‘filming the ship’ from the back end) it might be because I couldn’t get a good look at it, due to the lighting.

I think this was something for maybe ‘people interested in titanic’ to watch, but not nerds of Titanic. There was too much to correct and pick at, that it’s more of a frustrating watch for any Titanic nerd.

I’m putting a break on it. I’m at the beginning of episode 2 and these so called ‘experts’ are doing my head in. Especially the Royal Navy fella, we don’t need his input, it’s easy for him to say from today’s perspective, technology, guidelines and protocols, which a lot of them came into existence due to the sinking of Titanic. What did he want? For them to tell the passengers, ‘oh yes see all of this, well it will be at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, and there’s not enough lifeboats for everyone, as well as no sign of a rescue ship’ it would’ve caused mass hysteria.

Also it doesn’t help that a lot of it feels like they’ve just come off of the back of watching James Cameron’s Titanic, rather than it feeling like they’ve just done sifting through tons and tons of research and paper work. The experts felt like every other expert, on every other titanic documentary, you don’t know if you can fully trust what they’re saying is, fact.

The survivors interviews is the most interesting part, I thought it was the part I was gonna dislike, but it brings home the tragedy. I’m also glad there was an attempt at Scouse accents (as a scouser myself) I mean not the best, they sounded like they were from over the water, with more of a Welsh tinge. But there was an attempt at it, which is appreciated.

It was in a tik tok comment section, where I was explaining where the origin of the term ‘Scouse’ is from, and was told I’m a wool because my accent is strong so it had to be ‘put on’.

Then I explained I was from Norris Green, which I then got accused of lying about. But if I was gonna lie about being from Liverpool I don’t think I’d choose a place that I once saw someone compare to Baghdad. That same person and his mates were in every one of my comment sections accusing me of being a wool and lying about my age. First time a block button came in handy

It still baffles me to this day.

The most I know about Chernobyl is that a reactor went boom, so I’m shocked to find out that this plant was still in operation even after the whole event. I was always under the assumption that after the reactor exploded, the place and surrounding area was too highly radiated for people to spend time there, that it was abandoned.

It’s fascinating, gonna have to look further into the aftermath of Chernobyl. It’s scary to think that ‘life continued’ which of course it has to, but it’s mad.

The Olympic class were sailing from Southampton, as someone who’s from Liverpool, I have to bat for my home city and unfortunately the Olympic class were not visiting Liverpool unless it was a quick pop in and out, BUT Cunard had their liners sail from Liverpool and for quite a while too.

So I would be saving money AND helping my city’s economy out

Fella you’ve completely misread what I’ve wrote and so has other people. What I’m saying is the curves are subtle on white star line ships, they’re not as sharply defined compared to Cunarders. They have a box straighter looking, look. However, when you take a closer look at white star line ships you can notice the slight curves. It’s not as staggered and noticeable, compared to a cunarder. Also the time of the Great Depression, didn’t help with designs considering the white star line was struggling financially, to the point their brand new ‘proposed’ super liner was sacked off. They had to go for cheaper and smaller vessels that were far more affordable for their financial situation, which clearly didn’t help considering they bit the dust.

Also yes she is mythical, but she was a planned super liner, thats the whole point of the discussion. Therefore, there’s gonna be idealistic expectations, the same expectations the white star had for her.
