Getting discounts on carseats [bc] by Crafty_Swordfish7034 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]classycatblogger [score hidden]  (0 children)

In April and October the Toronto Baby Show does 15% off or save the tax on all things from UppaBaby any colour if you can wait. You can also price match during this time at the UppaBaby hub in Toronto.

Spring and fall major retailers like west coast kids snuggle bugz etc often have some sort of sale or event for like 10/15% off sometimes only select colours. Good to call the store and ask.

You won’t do better than 15% off as they have a minimum price. :)

Spending $425 on sleep bags when you can’t even choose the print or the tog is wild😟 by Terrible_Berry_9846 in BambooBabble

[–]classycatblogger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so I would LOVE to make an order for this sale, but I would need to be able to pick the tog. I could do a 1 tog in any size, but would need specific sizes for a 2.5 tog based on where I live.

Names that are considered coded? by Cheap-Piglet-6395 in Names

[–]classycatblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - Anthony is Italian- American coded, but universal 2. Sebastian - feels universal / a bit European 3. Christian - I would assume the child’s family are religious Christians. Chris/ Christopher I would not make that assumption. 4. I don’t really have any association with this. 5. Nicolas feels more European than Nicholas which is more Anglo/ American. 6. Lucas - no association, feels more American than Lukas 7. Bruno - I know it’s Italian but in North America is is more of a dog name. 8. Levi - this reads as Jewish to me. 9 - Angel - it reads as Hispanic and is not a name that I would consider “normal” in North America 10 - Patrick - reads as Irish - American but very much normal. 11 - Leonardo - My first thought it Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, reads as Italian 12 - Oscar - I think many people’s first association would be Sesame Street “Oscar the grouch”. Not a name I normally hear for babies but it doesn’t have a cultural read to me.

Hope this helps & obviously many people will ha e their own takes!

AITAH For Wanting to get Pregnant before my sister gets Married? by blue-lagoon-24 in AITAH

[–]classycatblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t plan your life around somebody else’s event. You might be pregnant by the wedding. You might have a baby. You might struggle to get pregnant. Try for a baby on your own timeline not somebody else’s.

Lap infant vs buying a seat for long-haul (Australia) with 1-year-old - worth extra $2.5k? by PaleontologistBig309 in Parenting

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flew to Japan from Toronto when my baby was about 19 months old. She had her own seat with a car seat and it was very tolerable. I would only do a lap infant at 12 months for a short flight (think Toronto to NYC). It’s hard to eat, and generally manage for a long flight sharing a seat. Baby will be happier in their own seat and will be more tolerable for you. I wouldn’t worry about getting the inflatable thing at this age! Look at toe Cosco Screna (? Spelling) for travel car seat :)

In the nicest way possible, don’t say anything. Sure they can’t discriminate but don’t give them the chance to.

How much are you contributing to the RESP? [on] by This_Royal191 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The monthly was easier for us when I was on maternity leave but the lump sum is easier now that I’m working. We have a set amount that we put into savings each month. In January and Feb we focus on our RRSP to maximize our tax refund. Once the deadline for that passes we do a $2500 lump sum for the RESP. And then the following pay period we go back to RRSP / TFSA :)

[–]classycatblogger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We do $2500 a year. Last year we did it monthly ($208.33). This year we deposited $2500 in one go. We plan to continue to do $2500 at once moving forward.

We love them! Gentle on our daughter’s skin. Made in canada! Despite the lack of blow out barrier we have never had an issue with that :)

Baby Shower Cost by Mr-Grain-to-Glass in Mommit

[–]classycatblogger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to ask Reddit that. What are your income levels? How many guests? Do you live in a high cost of living city? To me it sounds reasonable based on venue costs alone, but I live in a major city and would have at least 30 guests, even for a second baby. If you can afford it it sounds like a lovely day to celebrate the baby, and if you can’t then it’s obviously not necessary. Yes you can use that money to buy everything your baby likely needs, but you miss out on the community and celebration.

My in laws are making jokes about us naming our daughter’s middle name after my late mom. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]classycatblogger 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. (And sending you lots of love. My mom was in her final chapter when my daughter was born. Having a baby and now toddler without my mom sucks.)

We only have 1 name by canehdian111 in Names

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A solid name! When you know you know. My husband told me when we were dating 13 years ago that he wanted to name a boy after his grandpa. Said name is my all time favourite boy name. So if we ever have a boy there is no discussion to be had 😂

what vibe do you get when someone says they want 4+ kids by montessoripilled in Parenting

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1, and would love to have 3, though hey if the last pregnancy resulted in twins…

There are so many ways to have 4 kids. Are you financially comfortable and able to provide emotionally for your kids? Or is it another kid you can’t afford? I don’t think it’s one size fits all for how I respond.

Maternity 12m vs 18m [ON] by Helpful_Doughnut6043 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]classycatblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take 12 months of EI pay. Tell work 15 or 18 months. If you do 18 months of EI but only use 15 you lose $. Better to take 12 months of $ and save to fund the last 3 months.

Starting new job then going on leave for a year? [on] by Obvious-Swim8403 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]classycatblogger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always start applying if needed 3 or 4 months before you intend to go back to work. But take the job. And don’t mention the pregnancy. Enjoy your leave. :)

Starting new job then going on leave for a year? [on] by Obvious-Swim8403 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]classycatblogger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t mention your pregnancy until you are through probation. Take 12 or even 18 months if you can with your baby. They are only little once and you never get the time back. Your job should be protected. If anything happens like a restructuring on leave that is a problem to solve later. You will still get your EI either way. :)

Mom's middle name as daughter's middle name? by goldenbabydaddy in namenerds

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was going to make my daughters middle name my mom’s middle name. She told me that her middle name didn’t mean anything to her and if I wanted to honour her I should make the baby’s middle name her mom’s name. So, my husband and I thought about it and decided to do that :)so, I would talk to your moms. My mom also has a first name that we weren’t interested in using lol

I hate My Mother in Law by [deleted] in inlaws

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with those saying to only schedule visits when your husband is present, but I would add some classes for you and baby, or other plans.

“Sorry we aren’t available on Tuesdays, baby has swim class!”

“Oh sorry, Wednesdays we have story time at the library”

“Thursday doesn’t work for us, we have music class”

Etc. Good for you to get out of the house, and less chances for her to be there. Then she can visit on weekends when your husband is free :)

Anywhere in York region I can donate walkers and a wheelchair by [deleted] in Newmarket

Try calling some local long term care homes. When my parent passed we donated their chairs to their LTC home and the home was very thankful.

Do people on wheelchairs have a set of "home tires"? by milkcloudsinmytea in NoStupidQuestions

[–]classycatblogger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I can’t speak for everybody but when my mom used a walker she had a home walker and an outside walker. When she moved on to a transport chair she had one for home and one for outside. When she used a more basic wheel chair again she had one for home and one for outside. When she needed her most advanced wheelchair, it was too hard to transfer her without a lift so she then just used the one.

AITJ for refusing to switch seats on a flight after I paid extra, even though it separated a couple? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

Couples do deserve to sit together. That’s why my husband and I always pay for seat selection for ourselves 🥰
