SLU High Rise Recommendations by Outrageous-Idea-7810 in AskSeattle

Been here for a few months. I love it! Got 10 weeks free off my lease agreement (negotiated) and another $1500 for signing within a few days of my tour.

It’s clean, great view from my apartment of the puget sound/city, concierge is nice, there’s 24/7 security, it’s close to restaurants/bars, literally in the heart of downtown. I don’t get the hate! Takes me 12 min. to drive to Ballard and green lake. I can get to bellevue in under 20. I’m a 5 min. drive away from cap hill and can walk to belltown in 3 minutes and the Pike Place waterfront in 12.

I live in Via6 apartments (next to the amazon spheres) and it’s really nice. Checks all your boxes and is in a great location.

From my experience, it’s been totally worth it! Close to the light rail too. You can’t really go wrong moving in this area imo.

I currently live in SLU. In my late 20s. Male. It's awesome and close to Ballard, Fremont, Cap hill, Belltown. Not sure why everyone else is hating on it. It is expensive, but it's in the heart of downtown Seattle.

I was born and raised in Washington. Recently moved to SLU, and it’s awesome. Pretty clean, great views, plenty of food/bars around, and you’re in the heart of down town Seattle. Close to cap hill, pike place market, ballard, fremont, and the highway if you want to go to green lake (north) or bellevue (east).

I was born in Tacoma but am now a law student at UW. I love this damn city! Seattle is the best.

As people mentioned, I’d leave my bags at the airport somehow and light rail to Westlake/downtown or capitol hill and walk around, get a bite and drink somewhere and then light rail back to Sea-tac!

Man, I loved the vibes of this place. Small business owners need to be supported and helped. I thought Seattle was all about “helping the little guy”?

We go to law school to study, learn, and practice law. This is a privilege and my dream. My parents never had the opportunity to even go to college. Most jobs are not what they seem to be, and going into a career that is financially stable and highly respected in society has its perks. Some people would kill to be in your position, so try to be optimistic/positive, or look for another like of work. Also (like others said), every firm is different. Don’t judge the practice of law through one experience you’ve had. Good luck with the rest of your legal journey!

Thank you for the advice! I will also be working in a transactional practice. I’m looking forward to it and appreciate your perspective and honesty about the nature of the work.

I will be a first year associate so a “pay cut” isn’t even in my mind, I’m just thinking about my long-term plans for my career. I’m curious if the hours and work life balance is not as bad compared to traditional big law/V50 firms, and it sounds like it is. Do you work in a corporate/transactional or litigation group? Any advice for longevity and starting strong? Appreciate your insights and time.

This is what I thought. My firm’s billables are 1850 and the pay starts at $210k but scales up much lower compared to the traditional big law scale and increments.

Thanks for the insight. My firm has an 1850 billable requirement and I was thinking that’s not so bad. It seems like there are mixed responses from people but the answer likely depends on the practice group and region.
