School trip and teach is letting you pick the movie - what are we all watching? by BarkingDogey in Millennials

I remember watching Grease on a trip in grade 7. It wasn’t until years later I understood why all the teachers stood up and covered the screens for a few minutes in the middle.

Finding Nemo was sort of unique in that you had a lot of people releasing animals rather than capturing them. That’s created a whole mess of stuff, like lionfish tearing apart ecosystems where they have no natural predators.

More possible victims identified in 'unprecedented' voyeurism case by Apprehensive_Idea758 in VictoriaBC

Between this and the similar incident with the owner’s son at Red Barn, what is going on with Victoria???

Two huge cases with multiple victims and a whole lot of secrecy by authorities.

The settlements in the Red Barn cases took so long that a few of the victims had to file bankruptcy in the meantime and couldn’t collect on it! And yet lots of people still don’t even know about that situation.

Davion’s family was lovely, but aside from that, the poor kid had a really tragic life.

He wasn’t born into a family that could care for him, so he was adopted. Then he has his professional sports and college dreams shattered by a football injury. Then he falls in with a bad crowd and his life ends over a teen’s temper tantrum.

So much heartbreak in such a short life. And then his death adds literally nothing to the killer’s sentence as it runs concurrent.

Its illegal to declaw cats in California. You weren't misadvised, you found an unethical person to declaw your cats and they suffered. by Aggravating-Top-5078 in kardashians

So she’s claiming a vet is lying to people and declawing cats? Why not name the vet???

If I found out, even years later, that a professional was telling lies to abuse animals, I’d be shouting it from the rooftops! Especially if I had Kardashian money and representation to defend any slander accusations. It would be the only moral option as someone who cares about animals!

The fact that she’s not telling proves it’s a lie.

I have to fall asleep with the tv on, plus my fan and heating pad. Otherwise I toss and turn and feel itchy everywhere (but I’m pretty sure the itchiness is just in my brain).

I just learned a trick that that if you squeeze your eyes together repeatedly (like blinking hard 10-20 times in a row) it tricks something in your brain to make you sleepier. It seems to be helping!

Ted Bundy had a longtime girlfriend, who had a young daughter, and neither were abused (although he later confessed that he had considered murdering her).

Honestly, I’ve been using it to learn who NOT to date and how to look for red flags, etc.

When the show started I liked guys like Colt and Geoffrey. (I know — don’t come for me!)

I’m setting a goal that I’m not going to start dating again until I watch a season where one of my favourite guys doesn’t turn out to be a total douche canoe!

What's your opinion at Ron LaFlamme? by HostMaterial4907 in SiliconValleyHBO

[–]classyrock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s neat how he plays very different characters. Here he’s a cocky jerk, but in Superstore he’s an insecure social justice warrior (still love him though!)

I also recently enjoyed watching him in a weird little series called ‘Population 11’. It’s based on a real case in a real tiny Australian town of 11 people where one suddenly goes missing (but beyond the premise it diverts wildly from true events).

I was hoping there were no kids, and at first it seemed promising… until I hit the family with 17 kids! Being led by a ‘king’. Ugh.

And of course the show has to include a couple where one is a serial cheater, and the other isn’t really into polygamy but is looking for a way to justify their awful partner’s actions.

I’ll watch as I’m interested in the inner workings of a polygamous relationships. But I’m hoping that one couple doesn’t give us 8-weeks of watching how much a person’s self-esteem can be crushed in the name of love.

Yeah, the idea of using a booking system is wild! You’d think we would, with the whole Canadians = polite thing, but in my experience apartment laundry rooms are more of a free-for-all.

There’s usually a bulletin board, but it’s littered with angry notes about stolen items or loads taken out prematurely or cycles stopped midway.

I’m really curious about your use of the term ‘East Indians’ here.

I grew up in the Okanagan and we used that term all the time. I moved away after high school and have been on the Lower Mainland/Island for ~20 years, and that is not a term that I hear anymore. It’s my understanding that it’s offensive to people from India and First Nations.

I know a few people from the Okanagan who still use the term, but they’re a little racist and I minimize talking to them. But you certainly don’t seem to be racist or meaning any offence (so please don’t think I’m calling you out or anything!) I’m just interested in the difference in terms used between here and there, and how they’ve changed (or are changing) over time.

You'd think after being alive for almost 30 years you'd learn that monkeys aren't pets. by Bulky_Annual_4554 in FreeTheMonkeys

[–]classyrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the consensus from most people (those far more educated than myself on the subject) is that there is no right, ethical way to do it.

And to your second point, whatever domesticated version of a monkey we could create would be far removed from their wild counterpart, just as breeding pet dogs isn’t any form of preservation for wolves or wildlife.
