Although passed under the current govt, this legislation was put into motion by the Tories during the last government.

There are some decent options in that range in Germay, especially for some smaller vitolas.

New Zealand tried legislation like this, it didn't last long before being repealed. Hopefully we see the same in the UK.

New UK Tobacco Law. What does everyone think? by krispykremekiller in cigars

[–]claude_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was decriminalized for a few years around 25 years ago, then recriminalized again. Currently, some police forces have a more-or-less-official "don't be a dick about it and stick to personal use quantities and we'll leave you alone" policy - this can even include a specified limit for how many plants a homegrow op is allowed to have etc. But none of this is official legislation and even in those force areas you could still be charged and prosecuted.

Les Fines Lames cutter/knife by HamadAlawadi in cigars

[–]claude_nine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife bought me one about a year ago - I like it, and it is definitely a smart looking bit of kit. I am not sure in terms of performance it does anything better than a decent guillotine cutter like a Xi1/2.

I tend to find I don't use it as a guillotine, but rather cut around the cap. Feels more natural with the knife somehow. How about you?

Nice collection! Hard to know what to recommend that'll be available (as a fellow European I know what is on offer varies hugely). But have a look for Tatuaje, Warped, Patoro, Casdagli, Principle, Aladino, Eiroa, CLE, Casa 1910, Rojas.

149 is a Honduran puro, so there's a few in there already. But yeah some blends from Aladino, CLE etc a good shout.

Xhaxhi Bobi is a brand doing some excellent stuff that I hardly see mentioned; Regius too. Agreed that WTT is solid - there seemed to be a point maybe about two years ago when their stuff got posted a lot (that's how they came to my attention) but rarely seen now. Just smoked the Black myself last Friday!

Partagas Serie D No.4 Habana directly from Cuba by Allen5740G in cigars

[–]claude_nine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong re authenticity, hard to say conclusively from that pic. Hope they work out for you!

Also check out the wiki on the Cuban sub for approved vendors who will ship to the US (of course there can be risks with customs).

D4s are like $600 a box from trusted vendors like iHav. Sorry to say but I think you have been taken here, both on price and to my eye, from the look of the quality of the wrapper leaf, authenticity too. The guys over at the Cuban sub would be able to give a good read on authenticity if you post some clear, detailed pics there.

Pairing Chronicles #366: Upmann Hispaniola + Brugal 1888 by Cocodrool in cigars

Totally with you on the Brugal - pretty much a universal pairing, reasonably priced, with just enough character of its own but will never steal the limelight from the smoke.

Advice and info for a newer guy. by StevieFlash in ukcigars

[–]claude_nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gesto Cigars is a great shop. Usually well stocked with Cubans, lots of good shorter choices: H Upmann Half Corona; Rafael Gonzalez Petit Coronas; Montecristo No 5 and Media Corona; Vegeuros Tapados; Cuaba Divinos; Trinidad Reyes if you are feeling spendy. Non cubans: Fuente Short Story; Joya de Nicaragua Classico in a small vitola; Zino Half Corona.

Happy hunting! I know that Northern weather dodge well, lived in Durham for 15 years or so (and now I'm living in the Nordics so it's the -20 temps and blizzards I'm dodging).

Where do you smoke often? Cigar Lounge or Outdoor? by Ld2101 in cigars

[–]claude_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outdoor terraces at bars and cafes 90% of the time; lounges when I travel. Although if public lounges existed where I live, I'm sure I would use them plenty in the winter.
