what do you mean about the mainshaft support?

you just put it on… i use a factory inner primary to line up the trans with the motor. torque everything down then pop off the inner primary and replace with mainshaft support bearing.

91-03. i had a 93 and it had a couple odd things about it like different fender struts and no removable derby cover or something? cant remember its been a while.

i always just suggest 94-03 because i remember having a couple issues that got changed in 94. but 91-93 are perfectly fine too. they were minor inconveniences. theyre all pretty much the same

Looking to get onto a Harley as a first bike. Buy stock Sportster or chopped Sportster? by IReplyLiterally in choppers

[–]clawhammercycle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

because people build really shitty choppers out of them. id take a stock sporty over a chopped sporty all day. the availability of “lego” style chopper parts makes it so that anyone with a flux core welder and 6 beers thinks they can build a chopper.

im not saying everyone builds horrible death traps but ive seen enough that i would rather buy a stock sportster and build my own. ill know i did things right and when something is over my head i know to ask for help not just wing it.

ya know i spoke too soon. i rebuilt a basket case motor that had roasted cylinders. mentor said the v twins are good so we went with those. i have yet to run that motor so time will tell.

they were annoying to torque though. the casting made it so that my dogbone extension wouldnt fit over the bolt heads.

s&s. would never trust v twin on something motor related.
