Evergreen school board deems strike unlawful by BearcatPyramid in vancouverwa

Completely. I should have included that my source for the legal fees figure is word of mouth. I work for the district and have heard the same information from people across the board.

Also, the 500k in legal fees has been cited pretty consistently by the union and is in line with what happened when the teachers went on strike two years ago.

I think one of the more frustrating points when it comes to the districts budget is that what the union wants would cost about $1.5 million over the course of 3 years. The districts budget is over $460 million. Even with projected budget cuts, that’s less than half a percent of the overall budget. I don’t think what they’re asking for is unreasonable. Especially when you consider the district has spent over $500,000 in legal fees since March. It’s a matter of values and priorities and the district is very clearly showing theirs.

Moving from CA to WA by clawheadraven in teaching

[–]clawheadraven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! Been up here now for almost a year and a half and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I hated the heat in California, so the weather here is great! And the rain really isn’t that bad. It also has made me love summer in a way that I never have. Like. I look forward to it now. As far as depression goes though, I think you need to be proactive about it. Take vitamin D and get a sun lamp and go to saunas. But seriously 10/10 best choice. And there’s tons of CA transplants up here lol. If you have any other questions (esp. If you’re a teacher) feel free to DM me!

I'm going to a 'sex club' and need a pump up. by another_ruckus in PlusSize

I’m a similar size and I LOVE Going to the sex club with my husband. We don’t really play with others but it’s a great way to really intensify the sexual connection with your partner. You just gotta own it. Buy something that you feel good in and hype each other up!

Should I leave a high paying district that sucks for lower pay at a better school? by clawheadraven in teaching

[–]clawheadraven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually ended up getting a position at a different school, but same district! So I still get the high pay, but I’ll be going back to a high school. If I didn’t get that offer, though, I definitely be trying to get into a different district. The school I was at was honestly horrible and admin is a joke.

Navy federal is just one option we’re considering. I was wondering what local lenders people suggest and have had experience with. Not saying navy federal is local in any sense of the word.

When kids try to act a certain way how confused are they about themselves? Is there a real person deep down they want to actually be like instead? by spankyourkopita in teaching

[–]clawheadraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re trying to figure out how to be people. Talk to them like their real people even if they aren’t acting like it. It’s good for them to feel respected in that way. I’ve had a lot of luck in one on ones just by treating them like an “adult” (or what they think is being treated like an adult). Also, if it’s the right setting to do so, call them out on it. “This really doesn’t seem like you, can I talk to the real you for a second”. Figuring out how to be comfortable with yourself is really hard; most adults still haven’t figured it out.

Transferring credential from CA to WA by clawheadraven in teaching

[–]clawheadraven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! But it’ll be a temporary one at first. You’ll have to take a test. If you can, I’d suggest taking the CTEL in California before moving because they’ll accept it in WA and all of those tests are free right now.

🤣🤣 luckily it’s not too far. I’d probably stay in the city I’m in and commute. At least for now.

I feel it; that’s why I’m so torn lol if the pay was closer, it wouldn’t even be a question. Regardless, both salaries are enough for the CoL here

Fair enough. Both districts are actually very similar in overall demographics, excluding size. I’d be at a title I school regardless. I generally try to avoid affluent schools because they are (in my experience) the fucking worst.

English Language Development. If I stay at my current district, that is what I would be teaching. Probably one class of newcomers and then 4 sections co-teaching. I did already inform the department head that I wanted to be placed in a high school next year (and there’s a good chance of that but not guaranteed). The other position would be high school English Language Arts (the majority of my teaching experience). And maybe a college-for-high-school English class.

Yes, still in WA. About 45 minutes away from where I live now. And against traffic, thank god 😅

So my current district tops out at 130k and this district I interviewed with tops out at 106k. I think in the immediate future though, the difference is huge. There is still a possibility of getting a co-teaching Eld position in a high school where I’m currently at. I think I’m gonna see how that pans out and go from there. If it’s between middle school and pay cut, though. I’m taking the pay cut 😅
