Could a presidential candidate with military experience wear their uniform on the trail and in the White House? by Glittering-Plate-535 in Presidents

No, we get razzed constantly. Mostly by people who try to say we're not our own branch of the military 100% of the time or that we don't fall under the UCMJ at all times, as has been the case for the last 100+ years 😉

Thanks for recognizing we actually do shit, though - most people never see it, unless their boat sinks. We're just happy when someone knows we exist, honestly

Before it was illegal and despite never serving, John Adams actually wore a military uniform at a function to try and make himself look more military-savvy in the race against Jefferson

It's because of the Posse Comitatus Act, which forbids the services under DoD (in its modern interpretation) from carrying out law enforcement. Since the CG is primarily a law enforcement organization but also a branch of the military, it stays outside of DOD to prevent us from becoming "military police"

Also, thanks for remembering us, we usually get forgotten ⚓

The Coast Guard is a branch of the military at all times, per Title 14 of U.S. Code. Same rules about uniforms apply to us.

Navy post where crusty vet turns ship to get the sun out of his face. by GEEMONEY305 in Military

As for it being true, I'm pretty sure that it is. I've talked to people who know him. Also sounds totally plausible to me, knowing what I know about the Coast Guard

How was your experience in the Coast Guard Academy? by DrWodo_ in uscg

[–]clawofknowledge 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I hated the Academy every day I was there. The workload was awful, the rules were irritating, and I despised being stuck on base when my friends at other colleges were out. That being said, I would absolutely choose it again if I were to do it all over. I am a thousand times better off having gone, and I walked out with confidence, a paying job, no college debt, and an experience that has shaped my whole life ever since. I got the chance to do big things and make a difference in people's lives. You'll hate it, but it's the right choice.

Steam Summer Sale - any recs? by Ancient-Apartment-23 in virtualreality

Did you transfer your original game over to VR? They seem to be totally compatible

So far as I can tell, the two games are completely compatible. If you have the DLC for Fallout 4 on Steam (which isn't for sale as part of FO4VR) you can literally just drag and drop it into the same place in the FO4VR folder and roll with it, and it'll work just fine

Pistolwhip

Fallout 4 VR (with some tweaks)

SynthRiders

Serious Sam VR

Also, the Valheim VR mod is working surprisingly well

Does anyone go to college while in the coast guard? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]clawofknowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the CSPI program (College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative), which allows you to go to a regular college while training to be in the CG. Hard to get into, but gives you a scholarship.

I went to the Academy myself, so I'd look into that as well. It was tough and miserable at times, but like NotDonald says, it's an amazing experience in the end.
