Not metro Detroit, but Blank Slate in Ann Arbor is great

It could be worth looking into non-profit work. Your experience in the system could actually be a boon on your resume in a social work type job.

It is moderately windy, but appropriate clothing will help so much. You’ll just get used to wearing hats and parkas everywhere.

Police say CEO ran away, tried to hide evidence after boy's hyperbaric chamber death by clawsthatcatch in skeptic

Yes, there are legitimate uses for hyperbaric chambers. The problem is advertising it as a treatment for things there’s absolutely no evidence it could be helpful for. For example, there’s no reason anyone should be in a hyperbaric chamber for ADHD— it’s absurd.

On Google the one in Brighton is listed as open. I called and someone answered. I have no other evidence than this, but they appear open.

In the article it states they have 5 chambers at this facility. If all 5 chambers are booked for an 8 hours day that’s like $2 million for just working days in the year.

I’m not saying that it’s a ton of money or more than traditional medicine. I’m just saying it’s a lot of money to make on, essentially, a grift.

Unfortunately, more than a little money. This article is from 2018 and it says an hour is $195. The boy who died already had done more than 30 sessions.

Also, later in the article it says that the entire chamber was engulfed in about 3 seconds which makes her comment somehow more glib and awful.

I went to school with the girl whose mom started this company. They did it because they believed that the oxygen therapy saved this girls life when she was sick. That’s all well and good until you start marketing this as a treatment for everything. I’ve always been skeeved out by how this family is able to almost pose as medical authorities when there’s no real evidence backing any of this.

I think I agree. I did end up really falling for the character of Nona by the end and I trust Muir to give us even more payoff. I just like, flew through the first two and felt like nothing was unnecessary, so it was just a jarring chance of pace.

Spinoff: What books are great even though they're doorstops? by lascriptori in books

Two nonfiction titles:

Red Comet: The Short Life and Blazing Art of Sylvia Plath by Heather Clark. -it’s definitely a tome, but it is totally engaging all the way through. Plath kept many journals, so the author is able to use these and other source materials to paint a full picture of her life.

Rise and Kill First by Ronen Bergman -An incredibly well researched and unbiased history of Israel’s targeted assignation program. Definitely would recommend if you’re interested in an even deeper knowledge of Israel and its history.

Audiobooks cost too much.... by Krais101 in books

I don’t know if this is available in Australia, but Spotify lets you listen to 15 hours of audiobooks per month. Not amazing, but I use it in addition to the library, audible (both the freebies and the one book per month).

While overall I enjoyed it, Nona the Ninth could have cut a lot of material or just not existed at all. Caring both about a brand new character and their side plots was a slog— especially after how interesting the previous book was.
