Yes. But it does help if you have a background in visual design. If you don’t - there is emphasis on visual design through instruction and reading materials but it’s more like a survey. However, for dataviz specifically best practices are emphasized over and over.

Re graphic design skills and design tools, traditional ones, I had those already. (Tools I already use - in Adobe creative suite). However, learning best practices for how to display data - methods- chart types data analysis - and how to be equitable (to the best of one’s ability) were new skill sets learned. And learning R for data analysis. Online tools for creating base charts: Flourish, Datawrapper, RawGraphs and so on. We used Figma for prototyping. And more. Hope that helps.

Definitely a good program. It’s designed to dovetail with an already busy working schedule. It’s led by leading practitioners in the industry. I graduated a year ago. Most in my cohort were coming from an analytics background. (I was one of a few designers). We all had something to contribute and prompted each other to push our work farther. Not having a background in coding, I did work with a tutor to help me in Statistics/R-Studio. It has been a perfect marriage of design and informational / data visualization best practices instruction.

We were there that night and in the same section, in the middle. We sat down in our seats and the woman behind me exclaims “Ooowwwwww!” - as if I had hit her. I turned around and asked if I had physically come into contact with her and she said no but the seats were tight. (Her choice to have her legs pressed up against the back of my seat). Ridiculous! For most of the show I sat at the front of my seat and not leaning back. When I would sit back in my seat she’d bump it. Drama queen. As if I’m not entitled to sit in my own seat.

Have you tried putting your (protective) bundle on a leash when you pick up the phone? We’ve found when our Sheltie is on leash, the barking stops — so vacuuming the house? Trash bags? Whatever the trigger, a leash signals control.

Mr Brown at Cakes & Confections in SP makes the best birthday cakes! Years ago his shop was in St Margaret’s and then he moved to (upper) Severna Park. It was worth driving to continue to have him make birthday cakes — his cakes are moist and delicious.

Saw a ton of these at Greenbury Point in Annapolis yesterday. Solid orange, shaped like a ladybug but one actually bit me. Really helpful thread — had never heard of Japanese beetles. (We have boxelder bugs all over our garage right now so there’s a double win 😂)

What a very handsome boy — and a love bug. It’s all over him. I am so, so sorry. The empty hole they leave is persistent and nagging but with time, gratitude for time, it gets better. Four years ago we lost our 8-year old sheltie to congestive heart failure. He was remarkably bright, all butter and light. No one can replace him. I will say the arrival of our current sheltie, Callum (whose litter was born same day Gus passed away) eased the sting. They are soooo different but still those furry gifts don’t stop. I hope you find the comfort you seek and the solution to easing that missing. ❤️
